(Saw this on a road sign somewhere between Cairns and Port Douglas - advertising a Cafe - made me laugh).
I think the best dog is like the best cat - flat! (Actually I do not dislike animals - just sick of them in my house and the damage they have done).

Whoever wrote this is definately a cat "owner"; been there, done that... Now very simple-
1) Open a beer,
2) Call mobile Vet service.
Thing with cats is, thousands of years ago the Egyptians worshiped them as Gods, modern day cats are still aware of this fact
Could add lots of comments re pros & cons of dogs & cats, but wont really go there, except to say we have 2 INDOOR ONLY cats and they allow us to have (at the moment) 4 ring-tailed possum joeys (orphans to hand raise) and a sick Grey-Headed Flying Fox (trying to pep him up a bit with lots of TLC). The cats are interested in the other animals, but have never been a problem (are actually scared of them I think!). They also don't scare off the 7 Brush-Tailed possums who come each night onto the back deck looking for food (since back-burning done, reduced natural food).

Would you believe me if I said I had a dog that doesn't bark, doesn't jump up, doesn't chew things, doesn't dig in the garden, doesn't chase cats, can be walked on a leash by a 2 year old, doesn't growl or anything at other dogs. He doesn't smell, doesn't shed, doesn't need brushing and 2 baths a year is fine. Loves kids and is Friendly in a calm and relaxed way.
He doesn't even pee or poop in his own yard (prefers to do his business out walking)!
He is typical of his breed ( except maybe the cat bit, though surprising around 15% are cat friendly and another 40% with training).
He is probably the last breed of dog you might consider, yet for all of the above reasons he should be the first!

Hi Bronwyn,
you are obviously talking about Greyhounds (have been following your posts)- you're right, it's a shame not more people consider them as pets. Bit like ex-race horses (the choice world-wide for mounted police forces)- well trained well diciplined.
We, unfortunately don't have the time (work commitments mainly) for such a pet, plus it would mean fencing our yard (would be a real shame), and a block with about 1/3 gradient and covered in rocks, black-boys, etc., not really the ideal spot for a dog./

Hi Ray,
Wondered how long it would be before someone asked. To clear it up- I (Steve) set us up on the site and therefore chose the avatar (one of Moni's favorite pics) but the PT is "Moni's", and she works at Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park at Calga, (Is a bit of a Sanctuary/Park (a fantastic place actually)) and her favourite animals are the Dingoes and the Flying Foxes, thus she is known as Batwoman, & the PT has a few bat stickers (with eventually airbrushing of same to follow) so her colleagues have already called it the Batmobile...
Hope this explains....
Steve

And PTmunji wins the prize for person paying the most attention!
Yes, Zoomie is a greyhound and a better dog I challenge anyone to match!
We love him to bits and at the bargain adoption price of $250 including collar, leash, muzzle, desexed.
, wormed and a 3 month supply of Advantage, a bargain price as well.
Zoomie actually alerted me to a baby tawny frogmouth sitting in the bushes a few weeks ago, fallen out of it's nest I'd say. So off to WIRES went the baby bird. My favorite bird in fact. As cute as a button it was.
Can't imagine a cat just "nosing gently" a baby anything!

Thanks, but this topic is in "other" so hopefully we won't be in trouble!
Zoomie is a rescue dog, a retired racer. we have never had anything to do with actual greyhound racing!
I just love the breed, so elegant. So tragic what happens to the thousands each year that either aren't good enough or are retired at the age of 3 or 4.
They just get put down.
A friend of mine, a vet nurse, gave it up. She was working in a vet surgery where up to 50 perfectly healthy, perfectly lovable but no good as racing greyhounds were being put down EACH WEEK. Occasionally they might have got one or two rehomed but the number of unwanted greyhounds was incredible.
She had 4 herself!
We intend to go down to Melbourne next year, maybe not in PeeTee though. I might just take you up on your offer!
