Help? A squeak in my front right ! 1 Year, 5 Months ago
|
|
|
Can anyone give me a "heads up" on a squeak in the front right side? Only occurs when going over a speed hump ie decent size lumps! She is a 2008 with 18900 kms. Mechanic thinks it is the strut mount and suggested that I take it to dealer for investigate, still under warranty. Any thoughts, suggestions appreciated before the dealer tells me " it's normal" or "that I'm imagining things"
cheers.

I get it in the left hand side. Mine is out of warranty but if you go to the dealer, dont take no for an answer.
The lower control arm bushes are well known to split. May be a cause.

If its under warranty get the lower control arm bushes replaced, aswell as the upper strut mounts
Lower control arm bushes are around $900-$1100 to get replaced if no warranty
Also do you know which warranty you got as their are two different types
Standard Harrier service warranty allows for $1500 worth of repairs over the length of the warranty
Which means if they do your lower control arm bushes that leaves you with around $500 for the length of your warranty
If you got Premium Harrier service warranty which cost more, you will have unlimited warranty claims

Hi thanks, I bought the car second hand so I presume it has just a standard warranty. I do know that no other work has been done under warranty. It can go to any Chrysler dealer cant it?
How urgent is the repair work? Do I need too rush her off as soon as possible and not drive in the meantime or can it wait a few weeks? Will the dealer replace both "thingys" ie left and right if only one is a problem?
Finally, how does this fault occur, I doubt if this car was "thrashed about" by her previous owner. I have only 18,000kms on the clock so it seems a bit early for "wear and tear". Many thanks for your advice.

don't U all in NSW have to go over the pits, get a pink or blue slip or something when a car gets sold ( we call it a ROAD worthy certificate) should this have been picked up then??

Hi, seeing as the car was still under warranty I figured if there was anything untoward, the warranty would cover it.
The car being under 3 years old, in NSW, doesnt actually need a "pink slip" for rego. And I doubt if an NRMA check, if Id had one done, would have picked this up either. We are talking about a very, very little squeak and only on huge speed lumps.
I just had it serviced and they are good mechanics, but they didnt see anything even though they were looking for the source of the squeak (mind you they are Holden gurus). The guy had to take it out again to find the right size speed hump (Croydon Road, Croydon if anyone wants to check them out) to hear the squeak.
I'm going to take her to those suspension specialists and see what they find before I tackle Chrysler.
Its hard to underatand how this part can wear out so quickly!

Hi Bronwyn
Hey come along to a run with us soon. A few of us would be hapy to look or listen and advise.
If you bought the car through a dealership you should atleast notify them first of the noise.
If you bought it privately still get someone to look at as soon as just to make sure your safe. Then address it when the timing is more suited.

Back again
Bronwyn if you feel you cant meet up at the start you can ring our Cruise Controller - Col, or his Assistant - David or myself and we can let you know where we may be at a certain time in the morning. Our phone numbers are on the bottom of our posts. Pending where you live we may even be travelling past your home area.
On the bottom of the page you can drag your mouse over the top of our club name "PT Cruisers Downunder NSW Inc" and it opens up our Home Page with more club info there.
If you cant make it on this run keep an eye in the NSW section of this forum and we advertise all our runs approx a month before and there are a few posts in the spotlight section about us.
Welcome & Enjoy.

Bummer, just found out my attendance is required at Glebe, Wentworth Park at 10am Sunday. You see, we have a retired racing greyhound, a rescue dog, and he is an advocate for Greyhounds as Pets! They are having like a pet day down there and Zoomie ( our dog) needs to go along and win a few hearts! Seeing as PeeTee is going as well, she can also win some hearts!
Is there a run on the following Sunday! And would someone care to organize a run down to Bowral for the flower show!, that's 25th Sept or thereabouts ? I have Mum and Dad down there and my brother and his boy are over from Perth. I can't think of anything that would thrill young Tom more than a line up of PTs. They do in fact have a car parade through town as part of the festival day, could us PTs join in I wonder? Just a thought!

Dealer will do minimum they can get away with.
The rubber is soft for a cushy ride and wears out - there are polyureathane replacements, but you'll have to find a place willing to do labor - dealers and most places will simply buy whole new control arms rather than remove the worn rubber and press in new.
Your parts aren't necessarily worn out, you just have a squeak.
If you can get the car on a lift, spray liberally with silicone spray - it will cure a squeak for a while...
