TOPIC: Brake Pads and Rotars

Brake Pads and Rotars 7 Years, 10 Months ago
Ok, I've just been speaking to dba about replacement rotars and pads, so here's the run down:

- slotted rotars offer considerably better braking than standard (obviously!)
- cross drilled and slotted rotars are actually no different in performance to slotted (they just look better!)
- slotted rotars are around $154 inc GST each
- slotted/crossed drilled rotars are around $180 inc GST each

How does this compare to original equipment?
List price for front rotars from Chrysler are $139 for standard boring normally ventilated items.

Also, its interesting to note that standard list price for pads from Chrysler is $144.64 each set. But I know that this is the same price I can get high performance pads that are actually going to be softer on the rotar and not wear it down so quick...

Anyone got other comparisons or pricing to add?

Oh, and by the way, quantity discounts apply for orders of 10 or more sets.

So if there's 10 members out there that also need new rotars/pads soon, please let me know ASAP.

We can save between 7-10% if we purchase together.

If you need extra numbers to get the discount then count me in on the slotted/drilled versions (if we get the discount) I will keep them till I need them....I haven't priced around but have you checked the US sites or Ebay????
On Ebay there are Kevlar metallic pads from US$25 -50 plus $10 US delivery and slotted rotors for US$180 a pair including free US shipping.

You wouldn't believe it but yesterday started to hear scrapping on the front drivers side rotor, and noticed one pad is down to metal. Bought a set of Lucas pads for $70 and am currently fitting them. These are the easiest brake pads to fit. There are heat marks on rotor and discussed with the brake guy and we both agree it better to go through another set of pads with rotors as they are and no machining. You are only supposed to have 1.6mm of rotor thickness to come down from standard, and I think more than that has worn off with the pads.
He was saying that there is probably not much advantage in having slotted or drilled rotors for general use but different options are available and most rotors are made in China. He said that DBA get standard rotors and drill/machine them. Didn't get a price yet on other rotor options yet.

Not a good cooincidence Peter!

It should be noted that most would argue that PT is just fine with standard rotars and pads. But if you drive like me...

A guy from Online Pads (http://www.discpads.com.au) eventually phoned me back and blew me away with his pricing:

- Slotted, front/rear: $90/$118
- Slotted+drilled, front/rear: $150/$150

Anyway, from memory, minimum thickness for front rotars (don't know if rear is same) is 21.4mm.

The problem with this is that whilst you could probably go less, in the event of an insurance claim, they could get picky and decline claim based on unroadworthiness of car. Safer not to mess with it...

I had a lot of brake dust problems so changed to GREEN STUFF pads in January @ $300 for a complete set and have found them really good with minimal dust. Remember Tasmania has lots of corners.

Tassy.......Ricky has been checking those green ones out for the REX and the red ones too.
They seem to have the details that stackup to what he wants to use them for, and by what your saying they work just like they say with minimal build up.
Here's a web site that has more info http://www.flat4engineering.com/products/index.htm?item38.htm

will have to check my pads. Must be close too, but no strange sounds yet.

At least one of my rotors is only about a year old.

Mine are shot!

I just rang Chrysler for pricing on pads and rotors - just so I can feel so much better about buying after market/better quality and saving a squillion at the same time. Nearly fell off my bloody chair too!

They've changed the part # for the rotors meaning new supplier. Front rotors are $153 retail, $106 trade and the pads (make sure you're seated in the upright postion, safety belt is fastened and tray table is up for this one!!!) FRONT PAIR OF PADS ARE $310 RETAIL, $212 TRADE!!!!

I can get Kevlar for a fraction of that price!!!
