The double header weekend of the Esk Multicultural Festival on Saturday and Mopar Sunday started early for the Cruise Controller with a stayover trip up to “Busker “(at Esk) on Wednesday to prepare the property for the BBQ lunch that would follow the street parade at 9-30 and the opening of the Esk Historical Railway at 11-00.
Some early birds arrived during Friday .. Blue Moon , Phoenix , HelonWheels and BundyMum all staying overnight to get an early start for the 8-45am muster at the footy grounds for the street parade as well as joining C.C. Scottie and locals Dreddman (Mark and Angie) in a pre-arranged dinner for 8 Friday night at the Grand Hotel, Esk , which just happened to be about 200 metres from the motel that some Club members were staying at for the festival.
A foggy and pretty cool morning greeted the early stayover crew , with the 6km drive in to town for the 2 Busker PTs a rather cautious event – and the Brisbane and Toowoomba lots arriving on time , we soon had 15 PTs decorated and polished up for the parade. It soon cleared to a fantastic day with cloudless blue skies and light breezes to keep the very warm temperatures comfortable.
C.C. Scottie took off into the main street armed with the video camera and managed some rather good footage of the parade (especially of the PTs –of course!). The crowd whistled , waved and cheered with special interest being shown for the PTs with artwork and murals , and appreciating our sparkling display arranged in alternating colours.
After the street parade , the procession made it’s way to the park/Historical Railway site where a secure roped area arranged with the organisers by Dreddman allowed the PTs to set up a display for the public to come and admire them at closer quarters and giving the Club members a chance to wander thru the numerous stalls and other displays before the opening ceremony for the Historical Railway.
Then it was out to Busker for the wood fired BBQ which consisted of steak on a roll with salad , sausages , coleslaw and boiled potatoes, which filled everyone up .There were a few drinks , nibblies and very funny Celebrity Heads and Charades games – heaps of laughs and general chatting.
The motel PTs headed off to book in and prepare more supplies for the evening meal on the BBQ , and Dark and Stormy arrived (after being unavailable for the parade). It was a fairly early night as the head off time for Mopar Sunday in the morning was pretty early.
We sure missed the company of Memphis (who was ill) and Lil Tub (who was a late withdrawal) and all the others who were unable to make it – you missed a wonderful time!
Special thanks to all the helpers –Les and Bill (cooking) .. Mark (arranging festival matters) all the girls who chipped in serving - and Zane and Alex for the flag carrying in the parade – your support makes the day so much more enjoyable for everyone.
Cheers Scottie
