Cleveland Markets 27 June Report 1 Year, 7 Months ago
The Cruizin Chryslers headed off to the Redland Bay area (about 2 and a half hours from home territory) for a cruise yesterday. Due to other commitments, only 5 of us were able to make it, so the boys (Dennis and Brocky) headed down in Jelly Bean and the girls (Kerryn, Tracy and Jacq) travelled in the beautiful Blue Diamond.
We headed down to the Cleveland Markets where we looked around and got a few bargains and then stopped for the mandatory morning tea break of coffee, hot chocolate, scones and Dutch pancakes. After that, we headed down to Ormiston House – a beautiful historical homestead built on Raby Bay in the 1860s with an amazing history. The entertainment out on the front lawn overlooking the bay included a pipe band, a jazz band, a choir and more. The house which is now owned by the Carmelite Nuns was very well presented and a guide in each room gave us the history of the house and the people who had lived there and pointed out the special features.
Down to Cleveland Point then for fish and chips by the water (very sophisticated), followed by tea, coffee, gelato and sorbet. Then to walk it off we wandered along the shoreline (mud flats) exploring the rock pools etc. Finally we headed home for a final goodbye stop and swapping of girls and boys back to their relevant partners and got home around 6.30-ish. Thanks to everyone who came along it was a lovely, relaxing day.

THE DAY WE WENT TO CLEVELAND.
The day was cold with skies of grey
As we headed down to Redland Bay
Two cars went, one with girls, one with boys
The girls talked shopping and the boys talked toys.

At Cleveland Markets we did some deals
We bought fruit and veges and a new pair of heels.
After coffee and cake we travelled again
To Ormiston House just down ‘round the bend.

On arrival there the bag pipes did play
It really did make it a special day
We learnt all about the homes history
And the nuns who own it and their lives of mystery.

Fish and chips for lunch down by the bay
Followed by coffee, gelato and lemon sorbet.
We didn’t want to leave – wanted to do more
So along the rocky shoreline we walked and explored.

We saw jelly fish and crabs and oysters and muscles
Then into our cars and home we bussled
Driving into the sun as we headed west
Days like this are the absolute best.

Sounds like the start to your morning was just like ours.
Cloudy, very cold & ours very foggy.
Turned into a nice day in the end.
Sounds like a lovely place to visit, must go there, ONE day.

Thanks Colin, we did have a lovely day. The weather was a bit overcast but it was warmer than Toowoomba and it was nice for us highlanders to visit the 'beach'.

Thanks also to Brocky as Cruise Captain and Dennis as navigator. Pleased to say we were running ahead of time, going through Mt Gravatt at 9.50am.

The group having fish and chips by the mud flats at Cleveland Point

A pipe band playing on the front lawn of Ormiston House overlooking the bay (its a pity it was so overcast)

Inside the office in Ormiston House, this is where Captain Hope paid his staff that worked on the Cane farm. The door only has a handle on the inside, so it was up to the Captain who came in.

Blue Diamond and Jelly Bean admire the view

And sorry but I just had to put a Jelly Bean pic in with the Captain and his Navigator in the background
