gangster Gz that's a bit harsh ... If I didn't have the fellas at work I wouldn't know where to go to find an "honest" mechanic .. so the dealer is who I would ask first ( sorry but that is a given as the locals don't seem to know anything unless it is a HOLDEN or FORD !!) ... if they came up with a list ?? .. then I would have a choice of what should get done (safety) and what I can afford to get done ... I would as a female regardless where I went ask them for the REPLAcED parts so I could have proof of the work done & ask a technical person usually MALE to check that it has been done !! ... safety is number one concern ... but like I said I am VERY lucky I have a HEAP of fabulous car FANatics around me that have shown their TRUE valuable colours this past few days with the bad Karma we have been going though .. my tribute to my fellas & boys at work .. U do us proud !!

Yeah lol @ Spring break ... Spring is practically over, SUMMER is here!!

So I may be a little cynical about Dealers doing service, but: "once bitten - twice shy" - I have every reason to be... Service isn't their business - selling cars is - and they then make more money out of you charging a lot more for a service than a 'Mechanic' does in most cases...
I had a previous car in for service at a Dealer, and they didn't touch it and charged me a fortune for it - had to then get it done at a Mechanic who did the job properly - he showed me what came out of my car about a week after it was supposedly serviced at a dealer: filthy air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs...
Have also heard from a very reliable source about a tradie who was a painter - booked his vehicle in at the dealer for service - and had a painting job across the road that day - he watched his car sit in the parking lot ALL day, then when he went too pick it up they tried to tell him it was done and handed him a bill... He advised what he had been doing all day and that he wasn't paying them a cent to get his car back... They were VERY embarrassed!!!

I'm just very wary when it comes to dealers servicing my car... I give them a go first and if they do ok, I stick around a while, but if I'm not happy with it I don't go back and go elsewhere (just like anything else in life!)... I gave my Chrysler Dealer a go - as part of my 'sale deal' they said I could have a free courtesy car for the day - who would turn that down!?? LoL - they did ok for a while, but then when they started stuffing me around too much - and stuffed up my inquiry for extended warranty which subsequently I missed out on!! - I left them... I currently get my PT serviced at NRMA MotorServ Centre and am very happy with their servicing - you can watch them from the waiting room through a window into the workshop, working on your car - they come and see you with the job sheet and what they are going to do to it and sometimes they even take you into the workshop to show you if there is something that needs particular attention.
I even had them come to me on my last service to say that two things didn't need to be done - one of which was the air filter as I have the K&N - so I wouldn't be charged for it - how often does that happen???

I'm not saying all dealers are bad, I've had some good experiences and some bad

My original comment was in jest... but I've certainly had it happen to me... How many times to you get a phone call during the day its in service: "This needs to be done also...etc"?

Who can say no to a free oil change!!!!

Was just a friendly warning that some might try to get money out of you in other ways... I'm thinking of taking up the free oil change and mechanical check offer - might even have a look at what accessories they have on sale - I'm just going to be wary of any extra costs they want to try and hit me with that's all...

Safe and Happy Cruising

Checked this offer out...it is to intice old customers and new customers to the dealers for servicing..it is a geniune offer originally for Jeep owners but extended to pre 05 selected Chrysler vehicles..

so if you haven't been to a dealer for a while and you want to test them out, this is an opportunity to do so..I have always had my girl serviced at Mansfield..same mechanics..happy with treatment...approached other dealer service centres in Brisbane closer to home..but stuck to those who know my car and have treated me right..each to their own..understand the hesitation totally, have experienced and heard some horror stories myself..mine not with a PT..but know of one here is Brisbane regularly serviced her PT, did all the right things..car ran shocking..thought she was up for big dollars in repairs..turned out just need a good service and all the necesaries replaced, bought parts direct..found a good mechanic and now Pt purrs, turns out in all the time she has owned it and paid for servicing, not much had been changed and what had was not geniune or tapped up...a real dodgy job..this was not at a dealer..so good and bad where ever you go...

sooooo....

Have been through all this also. Have found a very good mechanic who has his own business now and no longer works for a dealer and really does the job right.
I don't mind a couple of phone calls if things need doing during the service that they find. They even give you an estimate on what the extra is going to cost you.
Happy to stay with him.

As has been said before, there's good & bad no matter where you go. You only get caught once to not go back, don't you?

so true...if you current situation works don't change it the complaints I have heard since working for a dealer have been against the management not the mechanics themselves..which can leave just as bad a taste if not more as they are the front line you deal with..have had no problems with the boys at Mansfield..have always looked after me well...as a regular client of this dealership I don't qualify for this special..but again if you haven't been to a dealer for a while and you want to test the service..why not.. you have the option that you don't have to go back...

Re:Spring Service Offer 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Today I took advantage of the Spring Service Offer which included a car wash and as expected some problems were found.

* worn ball joint boot split / leaking

Part $663.32 Labour $230.00 2.5 hours

* tie rod end boot split

Part $408.00 Labour $92.00 1.00 hour

No pressure put on me to book in for the work and I haven't

Would anyone care to comment on the prices quoted as I wouldn't have a clue.

Anyway, I am gunna will get from my our mechanic to have a look before I do anything.
