Petition agaist QLD registration rises 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Hi Everyone!

Below is a link to the petition to stop the increase of Car Rego in QLD by another $250 a year! This only takes a minute to do.

Please forward this onto every Queenslander you know. If this legislation goes ahead, we will pay in excess of $800 a year for rego. We used to be the cheapest state - no more!!

Thanks

From the 1st July, the cost of registration of Queensland vehicles has increased between 17 to 22%. This is a huge jump, and in already difficult times, somewhat of an insult to residents of this great state.

The increase however occured without much fanfare, and given those hardest hit by it are least likely to have a voice, very little will probably be done about it.

The government already generates about $1 billion in revenue from Queensland vehicle registrations, yet that money is put in to consolidated revenue, so there is no way to know what it is being spent on – if it is being spent on roads and infrastructure (as it is intenended) at all. This increase will add about another $194 million to that figure.

From a street users point of view, it’s difficult to see where that money is being spent. Given that most major road projects in cities are either privately funded, or joint funded with local councils.

A medium car registration in Queensland for 2009/10 will cost $461.40. That does not compare favorably with the entire nation – NSW and ACT are the closest, at $275.40 with Vic being the cheapest at $178.

If you are a Queensland resident, then you should give serious consideration to signing the Queensland Government ePetition requesting that the state government review their huge price increase.

Yes Wendy I agree. If the money was put to the roads we would have the best, but we have the worst roads out of everyone. As for more increases the gov should should think twice before they do it due to all the other increases that they are wacking onto everyone on top of this.A lot of people just won't be able to afford any more increases to things.

Hey guys north of the border, Does this registration fee that was mentioned at $800 include CTP Insurance?
Our use to be included down here but was made seperate quite some years ago.

No offence to any one north of the border as it's a great place but I always felt that most of Qlds past was underpopulated for it's size in comparison to most states on the east and with out a lot of major industry. I feel the affordability to live in QLD was a plan made on purpose to luer a population there to help the state grow so it can afford to run on it's own.
I can see your fuel costs have nearly caught up now and land rates as well.
My father lived up there for quite some years and was the amabassdor of QLD, drove us made, unfortunately for his sake he had to move back down here but he cant stand NSW....Well that was until recently when he spent 8 weeks up there and he came back and said he couldnt afford to live there any more and how much the population has changed.
Maybe we should all move west....lol

AHHHHGGGGGHHH!!! Don't get me started....... tooo late!!

No.. it does not include CTP, which I think is currently around $360 (Govt controlled pricing.. doesn't matter who you go thru). As of 1 Jul this year the rego for my SRT8 300C when I renew in Dec(any V8 in QLD) will be $980 (yep.. just the rego.. minus CTP) .. Merry Xmas!!

They tried to justify it by talking about penalising car owners for carbon emissions (v8 = more emissions).. & this from a Govt that would be even more broke than they are now if it weren't for the billions of $ they make from coal mining royalties.. talk about hypocrisy!! Green credentials my #ss!

We don't have an annual plate fee, it's a one off purchase and we still don't have annual inspections (just when you sell a car).. but hey.. watch this space.. any excuse for another fee.

Another post election surprise was the removing of the 8.9c per litre fuel subsidy (that we weren't really getting anyway) means we actually have the most expensive petrol in the country!

Thanks to all who have commented here. We are getting a very good overall picture here of the mighty increases up north.
Us down here in the south have worn this for sometime and sort of have learnt to put up with it but with our northern friends they are getting hit with everything all at the same time.
Any wonder your hip pocket is feeling it soooo much.

Govt's, well we better keep it civil here. None of us can beat em even if we kick em out as the next lot will be just as bad.
And we all need a car, just look at public transport.......................off the soapbox now for a while.

I have no problem with annual inspections - might get some of the rust bucket pieces of crap off the road!

Before everyone starts thinking that we're all paying a gazillion dollars in registration, it is not going up by hundreds of dollars as it says in the first post - it's gone up about $60 ish dollars over last year on a 4cyl. That's why I posted my last post - to hopefully clarify that. Breakdown is registration fee of $262.45, CTP of $340 and traffic improvement fee of $45.80 - total for our 4cyl PT and Dodge is $648.25 with no annual inspection fee's or plate fee's. My trailer rego went up by nearly $20 though!!!

Hi Peter the figures I quoted are what we paid in march 09 and I do believe there was an increase on 1st of July 09.
