INSTRUMENTS NOT LIGHTING UP OR FUNCTIONING 1 Year, 7 Months ago
On leaving local shopping centre last night I noticed that the dash board
instruments were not lighting up or working.

After reading the Forum about similiar problems experienced by other members,
I left the battery disconnected over night but still the prob was there this morning.

Indicators, external lights, wippers, radio, mirrors etc all work.

NRMA road Service have checked out all fuses ( both boards ).

I had a similiar prob some time back and auto electrician had the dash out
overnight and once reinstalled , the prob disappeared.

Has anyone got any suggestions for me before I go back to auto electrician ???

Hi Chris.
Silly as it sounds make sure that you don't have the lights turned off or dimmed right down....
Cheers Chris..

Magpie I have done that myself and did panic for a while but once I got over the dementia part I was ok and hasn't done the same since.

Sometimes I need a smack on the back of the head to bring me back to my senses.

Yes, I did that when first bought the cruiser Chris but this time it involves the arms on the instruments.

They just don't move.....not at all.

I will wait a while and see if someone has experienced this issue before and
passes on their knowledgeto me

Thanks for your input

hmm not lighting up could be all LEDs happen to have blown all at once ( that would be KEEN!!) .. there are 6 that light up that area on an 00 to 2005 we haven't had a newer one apart yet !! ... but then the indicator arrows "arms" would still be working ... at a guess from what I have heard of PHIL & Mels Neon (same KINDA module panel) they had same on way back from Bright they borrowed my GPS for speedo and it was a dry solder in the instrument cluster) which is what Phantom thinks I have kinda with Plums & Roses .. but just the light on the 80kms onward section of speedo intermittant on & off for NO reason and frustrating the arrow "arm" still working .. OR it could be a worn wire to the instrument area ... I have posted some pics else where ... central locking & dash lights ... sorry I can't be more specific ..

Chris you should'nt have said what you said the other night! "my car is going the best it ever has".
Chris are you saying the temp and fuel gauges are not working (moving) as well as the lights?
And what about the speedo?

As far as lighting if you go back to Bundanoon and complete the walk you could get some "Glow thingies" an stick on your dash

just don't tell any boys in blue U are using your GPS ... I said that the other night when pulled over for a random licence check when I said my sped was 110 on speedo & 112 on GPS) .. and they said U should use your CAR speedo as gpd are not Instant / accurate .. couldn't tell them that bit was on the fritz ... back to topic .. if any one takes Plums & roses apart for a fix I will see what they can see .. lets hope some one else comes on before then .. have U had alook at a USA site .. asked the question .. HEY I will ask RICO on the Nl site .. he is VERY clever ! DONE
here is link

Agree, if a question is asked on any of the USA sites you will probably get a good answer quickly.

Don't recommend to ask on the UK site unless you are a member of their club.

Off topic but in answer to 1st part of Dot's post I have found that the GPS is more accurate with speed especially if you have bigger wheels on your vehicle and the profile of the tyre doesn't quite match the original wheel dimensions as most GPS's update every 3 seconds. I know the overhead speed checks on the main highways aren't exactly true but have found most to be consistant with the GPS speed and not the actual speedo reading.
Off the soapbox now.

Chris, if the dash instuments are all out ,I think thats what you mentioned. That means no speedo etc ,you can turn the ignition on and push the tripmeter/ mileage black button and hold it down the computer controlling that part of the electrics will do a complete reset the dash components will go crazy and flip around breifly while they rest themselves. I had this issue with our 03 a few years ago with no speedo and instuments. do not know if the light part is fixed at same time as this happenned in daylight hours so lights were not a issue for me.

Rob,I have done what you suggested with ignition / tripmeter but without instrument lights I couldn't tell if anything happened.....but the instruments didn't come "alive".

I will try again before lunch and let you know result

Dot,thank you for your advice.

I had a quick look at the US site you gave me and noticed a reply had been posted already..I will keep an eye on that site and hope I understand what they are talking about.

Chief, thanks for info on accuracy of nav system particularly because of all the schools and various speed zones around here ( Hornsby NSW ).

Up until a few years ago, I thought there was only 5 in our family but
after joining PT Cruisers Downunder I realised our family was made up of a lot more than 5.

I am going to make a cup of coffee, sit down & clear my confused head and put my thinking cap on again later

Thanks you all for your interest in my problem

Chris

Re:INSTRUMENTS NOT LIGHTING UP OR FUNCTIONING 1 Year, 7 Months ago
I agree with CHIEF ref thought GPS being more accurate BUT was NOT going to argue the point with the boys in blue ... for more reasons than one ! .. while we are pondering .. GPS in Plums & Roses reads 112 kms when speedo is at 110 ... BUT Blackopal's GPS reads 107 when speedo on 110 .. same type GPS units .. and I have swapped them between cars still same result ... can U tell I need something to keep me "occupied" on my three hour runs .. seeing as telephone and camera R out of reach ....
back to topic ..

Just had another go at the ignition / tripmeter step but as anticipated...no
change.

Will sit down tonight and bang off a few inquiries to other sites before I go to plan B

This is what we all love about the forum. If we can't fix the problem between ourselves we then go to other plans and look a little further at other sites.

Good to see everyone jumping in and having a say and Chris we all hope you can get your problem sorted real soon at not tooo much cost if possible.
