TOPIC: AIR BAG light
#62225
AIR BAG light 2 Years, 4 Months ago
A couple of weeks ago the AIR BAG light started staying on and beeping at me, I'd stop the car and restart it and it would be fine after that... It did this a couple of times

I was away for the week (Mon-Fri) and it's sat at home, and I got in this morning to pick up the pooches and it's now coming on and off at random intervals - beeping each time it comes on - and turning the car off and then on again doesn't make any difference like it did last week...

Anyone else had AIR BAG issues and/or know what might need to be done?

If this requires Dealer intervention, please advise a 'good' dealer (if that's possible?) to go to that could fix this - preferably not too far away from Blacktown
Or if someone knows what the problem is and can help, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

hmm I'm no expert .. we get teh air bag lights come on in Voyagers .. cause the wires have been broken or worn in the seat belt pre tensioner thingie .. U will need to go to the dealer to have the codes read with the DRB to first see what it says & go from there I am thinking ... confounded electrics .. GGRRR

This is a common topic with much the same answers. Pretty much what Dot says.
I had this issue a year or so ago, pretty much the way you described it. They put the computer on it cleared the codes traced the fault to passenger side seatbelt. Before they poked around at it they told me to drive it for a couple of days first. to confirm the spot. So after a couple of days and the annoying warning bell Hooked back up to the computter cleared the codes again and this time fault trace to faulty wiring in the drivers side seat belt????
Now when they get things like this at a Chrysler service centre(as they are not auto electricians)They send it off to an expert. Who happens to find that the wiring under the drivers seat upto the airbag is faulty. Which means replacing the whole faulty section. and its not cheap just for the wiring is around $600 I don't know what the auto eleccie charged or what it cost in labour at Chrysler to fit and order.
BUT...... My sugestion to you is If you know an auto electrician who can ID the fault(with the right equipment) or you can take it to Automaster in Burwood on Cnr Parramatta RD/ Burwood RD and get them to check it(No idea of cost) Find out what needs replacing and let me know what parts and your Vin(I get staff discount) if its a minor/common problem like the clockspring (upto $90-$150) Part Wiring harness($300-700) other than that I have no idea on costs also charge for fitment.
Now if you need to take it to Chrysler Let me know and I'll make sure your looked after as best I can. If you do PM me and I'll go from there

Have had mine come on about three times. First time it was that really bad long weekend a few years ago. The same time the power door locks crapped themselves.

It did it again within a couple of months but have not seen it again since.

My problem now is the ABS and Traction Control lights

LoL Robert - yeah the tape covers up the light no problems - the problem is the damn constant beeping from the warning bell either each time it comes on - or at regular intervals if it stays on...!! argh!

Colin, I don't know any auto electrician so no idea where to go that has the equipment to check it out - other than Chrysler!?

Re:AIR BAG light 2 Years, 4 Months ago
so do you go to an Auto Electrician that has a heap of cars in front of it cause he looks busy
or
do you go to an Auto Electrician that has no cars in front of it, so it looks like he doesnt get work!
then
does that first one have a heap of car in front of it because he cant fix them and the other looks empty cause he can fix them and their gone!
Now what do you do Dean?
Bite the bullet and just drive around ask any the question. Chrysler (if i'm right Col) don't employ Auto Electricians but would engage or sublet to one if it gets to technical. They'll try a part...woops that didnt fix but you need it anyway and you also need this part!
The company I work for use PJ's Auto Electrics at Narellan. They've been good to us over many years. We probably drive past a dozen to get to them only because we are comfortable with them.
I'd suggest to let them know about the "Clock Spring" & Seat belt issues as it may cut down their time to diagnose them.
Most Electricians provide mobile as well Dean if you dont want to leave Blacktown but at a cost of course.

Mista Gangster ,
If you were in Wollongong I'd tell you where to go (nicely)... I paid $1300 to Chrysler for NO resolution to a very similar problem .. then I paid an auto electrician who found the problem , NOT all auto electricians are willing to even try , it took me a lot of searching to find one that was earger to even try , most will tell you to take the car to the dealer .
You probably have done some research on this forum to similar problems .. to get the electrical harness from the carpet to the side driver's side air bag is $311 , then possibly another $100 to fit... I have 2 harnesses from different models and BOTH have the same problem , the wires crease as you get in/out of the car.
You can either change the harness or chop your right leg , then no further more problems .. ( I hope I don't offend anyone ..with the last sentence )

can confirm that dealers do not employ auto electrics & sublet this out ( down her ein VIC anyhow!!) . sent Plums & Roses to MY work and paid them to have the central locking fixed uner warranty (they are on the list of reputable repairers !!!) .. hence when I had next set of central locking electrical issues .. I only went there for DRB & parts .. labour was done by my electrical Professionals .. if theycan ripp apart a Voyager & put it back together .. they can sort out one little PT !!

Not inferring all work is farmed out. We very rarely use them but it is done. And these guys are very good
Actually its 50% off my job We use Brake Pro for pads discs and flywheel machining
Also 2 different Auto electricians Pedders do some of our suspension work
Also engine reco's in Auburn Unda car does our exhausts
But we also service close to 100 cars a day with 15 - 20 mechanics

pleas note .... I think there is Nothing wrong with getting things sublet as ... GPs are a trusted 1st stop professional BUT they also send patients to other specialists to sort out individual problems .. as it should be .. a 100 cars a day no way U could cover all the "ISSUES" that would be involved in that lot !! a busy place !! .... back to topic I hope U get the air bag light things sorted ... tis out of my league ...

redgong ... we do LEFT foot accelorator adaptions if U need one .. (also not meant to offend )
