Fitting a ROAM e-tag to a Cruiser windscreen 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Hi all,

I just purchased a ROAM e-tag for my 02 Cruiser. The fitting instructions talk about problems fitting the tag to a metallic windscreen. Does the 02 Cruiser have a metallic windscreen? Hope someone can assist.

Unless it has CHUBB, BRINKS or ARMAGUARD printed on the outside I'd say you'd have standard run of the mill safety glass fitted to your PT, and your tag should come with a double sided adhesive pad for fitment

Not sure if they are the same as the e-tags here but we just keep ours in the glovebox and sit it on the dash when we need it. It works perfectly that way, and doesn't look like an ugly thing stuck on your windscreen. It also means we can put it in any car we like then, or take it on the bike when we had it.

Had a short term e-tag back in March when we were in NSW, Qld & Vic and fitted perfectly. No worries about anything except trying to get the double sided tape off when I returned it.
Nearly pulled the windscreen out from the inside, it was stuck on there that well.

Many thanks for the advice. The windscreen appears to be a standard laminated one.

I'll fit it as instructed. I travel a lot with work so I will be using the old Blu-Tack on the windscreen for the hire cars and on my partners car.

Blu tack is fine or as mentioned just place it on the dash when needed.
I do know you can get as many mounting bases as you require from the RTA or issuing company

lots I could add here .. NEVER had trouble in the "trucks" mentioned OR the TWO PTS or Voyagers BUT have had trouble in the french imports .. early Kangoos & Trafics had metallic screens had a LOT of reminders & no tag in car fees even though e tag was in the car .. teh metallic screen at eh top of some cars can cause interference I was told !!??? .... the old tags in VIC I have suction cap holders ( I was sent around a dozen or so AGES ago) take them from car to car .... new ones I have spare holders that we take off & on as required with double sided tape ... but the placing on the dash works fine as long as U hear the BEEP & U don't have them fall off the dash as U round a corner !! .... I make sure the rego numbers are on the account .. that way we can only be charged a NO tag in car fee ..

Hey Peter,

I think this is in relation to if you have a metallic "glare strip" film along the top of the windscreen...

I had one when I had my PT tinted (no longer there due to a windscreen replacement a year or two ago - new windscreen has tinted glass strip) I think that it's just that it may not work if fitted behind these strips along the top of the windscreen - just make sure it is below any such strips - behind the rear-view mirror is the best spot...
(I also had one on my previous car and did have probs when I held it behind that a few times)

I sit my e-tag under the dash-mat and have never had any issues with it working.... and it's OUTA SIGHT!!! no ugly thing sitting on my windscreen - YAY!

Just make sure you have your rego(s) are on the TAG account and it will take it off the account regardless...

Safe and Happy Cruising
