TOPIC: re spare tyre
#50686
Re: re spare tyre 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Ted & Bub
I was not impressed with this piddley spare tyre from the start. So, 4 months after I puchased the PT, I made up a second shelf and used the standard 17" wheel and tyre which came with the PT, and placed it under this second shelf. Works well!!

Have taken several holidays where you take everything but the kitchen sink - there was still plenty of room (with seats down of course!) Plus you do not have to fiddle with a tyre under the PT if its raining and it looks better when on - the spare, that is!

Easily fixed i took the punctured tyre off and headed off to a tyre repairer................................. in my other PT.
Alright for those that have 'another PT' or even another car....
But when you're on the road between destinations, it's a little difficult as I said, I'm NOT doing that again ... have had Ben's camry spare in the back of the PT when he had a flat and it seemed to kinda fit under the lower shelf - although it didn't quite sit in the grooves, but I'm hoping mine will!? lol
I'll get the others out of storage and see ...

Safe and Happy Cruising!
Hope you DONT ever have to use the piss poor excuse for an 'emergency spare' as has also been said, is it legal? the car is not sitting straight!!!

Its legal because it is OEM. But if we wanted to set the car up in such a fashion you can bet on it the auhtorities would be up in arms against it! For example, maximum opening on a bonnet scoop is 65 sq mm but if it is OEM it can be larger (e.g. Subaru Impressor). This type of law sucks!

Looks good Lonedog! That's the kinda thing that would work - just hoping that the shelf position hasn't changed between old and new models lol

Geoff I had my tyre all in place extended the carry bar to suit every thing fitted but for that bolt if the tyre went up it would just hit it. So if that could be turned round it could work my son and my self spent hours tryng to get it to fit looked ok to.

I have one driveway, 2 car garage & 5 cars. They dont all need to be here. Wait till the youngest (Lisa) starts driving at the end of the year. Probably another car then!
