re bracket 5 Years, 1 Month ago

well we have had a standard wheel there and secured so it can be done. now to get the right material to make some fittingings. what Edd is trying to do is to make some brackets that fix to the cage so you can extend it down to fitt a stock tyre. there was not that much of the tyre showing about 3 inches.
if any one is interested here are the approx sizes if the wheels/
standard wheel that came with the car
rim is 16inches across (they call them 15inces)
with tyre 24inches
with of tyre 8 inches.
the spare
rim 16 inches
tyre 22.1/2 inches
width 6.3/4 iches
so ther is not much difference sticking down the rim is a lot wider than the tyre.
when we get it made up and in place will put some pics up for you all
have a great new year

What a great idea - brackets to drop the "cage" down!
I think the drop-down bolt should be long enough.

Why thank you.
Wendy came to the PTE forum and mentioned this site. I visit 5 US PT sites and the UK Cruiser site as well.....

what a day 5 Years, 1 Month ago

Well we cut bend welded fitted then cut bent welded and fitted the bracket and after 6 hours of trying it came down to one bolt that is the bug bear. the bolt on the sway bar that sticks out towards the back is about 2inches away from the tyre and i think it would hit it if you hit a bad bump, the tyre had to be taken forward as for as possible to try an clear things. so after much trying and fitting the bloody thing wont fitt well it will fitt but it would be hit with that bolt, so we have gone back to my original concept we made the bracket a little lower than it is and im going to get a different tyre put on that rim might not be as wide as we are running but will sure be better than the push bike tyre that is there now. Any way it was a good lesson there is always a reason why it has not been done. Thanks for the interest shame the resuslt was not positive.

Got a flat on the weekend and had to use that stupid excuse they call a 'spare' ... sheesh! talk about crazy! the car doesn't even sit straight - and as for the already large rear wheel arch lol
Then I had to drive the rest of the way to the 'gong at 80kph on the freeway... talk about embarrassment! lol
Anyone come up with any ideas yet for that bracket underneath to modify to fit a full size spare? not a lot of room really tho
I'm thinking putting a spare on the floor of the boot and using my spare shelf on the lower spot as my new 'floor'...

I had the same problem this weekend and apparently my Goodyear Eagle tyres have to come from Brisbane so will have the stupid spare on for 4 days. This tyre must be illegal because the car tilts with it on so any feedback you get on if the bracket can be modified will be good.

after getting a flat in the rain.. and having to get the space saver spare out..and then driving with it.. went out and bought matching full size spare to rest of car.. takes up room in boot..but shelf sits in grooves just over the top..so didn't loose a great deal when used this way..no way will I use space saver again..unless I really really really have too!!

Touch wood 85,000klms and haven't had a flat yet but I am thinking of doing the same Bub. For what it's worth it makes you feel a little better. Can be tied down with straps to the 4 loop links to stop it from flying around in a sudden stop. My thoughts at this stage.

Well as i said we played around with it for nearly a day and ended up using the old one back inits place but we made the bar a bit deeper to fitt a larger tyre in I have not yet found a replacement for it as the cruiser only drives round town and if i get a flat have some spare tyres in my shed which i will get one of the boys to run out to me. what i was going to do is get a better tyre fitted to the toy wheel surly there is one a bit bigger that will fit as long as you can get the car back up straight you can drive on it to get it fixed. I will take a pic of the bolt that gave me all the trouble maby some one can come up with a solution to it or if it can be removed cause if you can a tyre will fitt there.

That happened to me once and there was no way i was driving with that embarassing excuse of a safety tyre as they call it on.
I've eat'n biscuits wider than that!
Easily fixed i took the punctured tyre off and headed off to a tyre repairer................................. in my other PT.
