Brake rotors and pads 5 Years, 7 Months ago
after 4 years of driving, my pt have to change the front rotors and pads for the first time now.
I have ordered the EBC rotors and Akebono pads last night with out thinking too much about it.

but now I'm wondering if I made the right decision or not.

which rotos and pads are you using? do you like them?

I have been to few cruise before, it was great!
but this year is my final year at uni, too much essays to write.
If i go to the cruise, all I think will be how to make my cruiser prettier/faster/cleaner. I don't think my mum wants me to fail any more subjects.
But the good thing is i have just finished my exam, so I'll have few weeks to play with the cruiser.

I've just had my 48,000 km service and Chrysler changed the front brake pads and replaced the brake rotors.
How many kms did others get before they had to change rotors?
Mine's an automatic and mostly city driven, and I drive like a hoon, but I'm still on my first set of tyres (Falken 225/50R17)!!!

they told you yu had to change them?

I'm at 90000 and and still on original pads and rotors. You probably could of got another set of pads through the rotors.

That does sound excessive. Did they give you the old rotors back. I'd want to have a look at them if they tried that with me.

any time I have work done on a car I alway insist that the old parts be left in the car. You'd be amazed how often something that they predict will be a major job turns into something a lot easier and cheaper if you insist on this. If you don't they could go ahead with work that is not always needed.

Yes, Chrysler said the rotors had to be changed because they were less than the minimum allowable thickness. I checked my manual - the front brake rotor spec thickness is 22.91mm to 23.10mm, and the minimum allowable thickness is 21.4mm - this means once you've worn off just 1.5mm, the rotor is sub-standard.
Not happy, Jan!!

The minimum thickness measurement is moulded onto the hub of the rotor.

And no, I didn't get the old rotors back - I will next time!
Thanks
Chris

if you have to next tiem go to a brake place not Chrysler, there are cheaper and better aftermarket pads and rotors available. If they are sayingthat the rotors where alreday under minimum thickness with that little km's on it I'd be asking of it was covered by warranty? I mean that only just over a years driving and you shouldn't have to change rotors that early.

We just got ours replaced at 89k.a and yes we went to a brake specialist mob. Cost us $450 but less than what Chrysler were going to charge.

Chrysler charged me $600 on top of the $600 for the 48K service.
Ouch!

Moonshadow - just visit your local mechanic in the future. You don't have to go to Chrysler to keep your warranty. There really isn't much to a 48k service

Brake pads and rotors and 48k service 5 Years, 7 Months ago
The only reason I went o Chrusler was to get the auto transmission serviced, which is required at 48k. Some of the overseas forums had indicated that transmissions in the Voyager and Cruiser (same transmission according to rumour) not serviced properly at 48k had failed and were not replaced under warranty because they hadn't been adequately serviced by Chrysler. Given that the transmission computer "learns" from your driving habits, there was a possibility that the "failure" could be programmed.
My trans is having to re-learn my habits since it was serviced (like holding 1st and 2nd gear to redline at 6500 rpm - told you I drive like a hoon! At my age I should behave, but it embarrases BMW drivers when they fall behind away from the traffic lights - it's the little things that make life enjoyable).
