Urethane Lower Control Arm Bush's 1 Year, 3 Months ago
There are a few threads on this topic but none updated or with any info on the where's and how's.
I'm no expert and will not be doing my own work(well not since I'm surrounded by Chrysler Mechanics)
Even though at first they didn't want to fit them, The reason, they didn't know how??
As they were aftermarket(RED) and were not shown how to fit after marketparts at Chrysler training(this is not a joke)
Plus when the mechanics looked at them they told me there were parts missing and were the wrong ones.
So I took them home thinking they were no good, I opened them and found fitting instructions. There were pieces missing but these were to be taken from the old original bush's.
So with this infomation I took them back to work and showed the MECHANICS this and they saw that this would work but would not be easy.
Well I've since obtained a set of old bush's and removed the nesessary parts and here is where I thought a few pictures would be a good idea. so here tis.

Firstly the new Bush's

Which are still available on ebay for $37 US and I think it was around the same for postage(Total $60-70 US)

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...mp;item=120421531024

Old Bush's from a Customers car (2 sets obtained just in case)

In the original bush's there is a metal sleeve with a large flat base. These are the pieces I needed. But these bush's are a complete unit Cannot be easily taken apart. After a few sudgestions I settled on using a large press to push the sleeves out of the rubber bush's.

Sleeve with part of the rubber still firmly attached.

The old rubber needs to be fully removed???? There were a couple of sugestions, Burn/melt them off, cut them off. Both sounded easy enough.
I chose to cut them off. Told to use a hacksaw and a razor blade.
Instead oppted for the electric jigsaw and grinder.

Most of the rubber removed first with the Jigsaw.

then more removed with the Grinder.

Used a razor blade scaper to tidy up the rough bits and some sand paper to smooth it out. After an hour or so this is both sleeves removed and cleaned up fitted with the new Bush's

and lastly from old to new.

Now they will be fitted tommorrow by the mechanics along with my service
see how they go on the trip to Port Macquarie on the weekend

There is an improvement slightly Not as rough a ride as I though it would be.
But I would compare it to Changing 1 spark plug. Not that noticable unless you change the whole lot.

Update when the car is serviced again and they should be well worn in by then to get a good idea of how they are goin.

The reason they were replaced was there was a lot of loud creaking goin on almost constantly while driving, But the creaking has not stopped or for that matter increased or decreased(so it wasn't the lower control arm bushes)
Next service will be in a few weeks(5k to go) I'm hoping that what ever is causing the squeaks and creaks can be found(possibily tie rods or other steering components)

Also if anyones interested, in the next few days I will be changing the gear box bush so will put some pics of that up aswell. So others can see whats involved.
Thanks Kieth for your help and I will fit it soon I promise.

Gearbox bush, very easy. Had to do one while on the run when up in Qld in March. Took longer to drink the stubbies than it took to put the bush in.

Yep it was easy But did make other problems more prevailent ie my slightly worn(well thats what I thought) Clutch. For a week gear changing became more of a problem with gears not wanting to go in. So much so that after 3 days I took the bush back out and drove around with none, which was somewhat better until Saturday evening when there was no gears to be found at all.
I may not be writing any more posts on my car troubles as it may stop others from buying
How many more stacks, whacks and mishaps can one PT have.
Is it a Black thing maybe

The dealers prefer to replace the whole control arm, because the bushes (bushings in the States) are all labor to install - easier to unbolt the whole arm.
The urethane far outlast the stock ones.

Actually now you mention it there is a slight vibration that was not there before coming from the glove box area.
But its not annoying or loud but you do notice it on occasions.

Also for those who a in need of an update on my PT's situation.
As I booked the car in last week for a new clutch to be put in today
They were expecting it but they weren't expecting it to be pushed in........
Anyway it was a bit too busy to get anything done today except partial disassemble
So hopefully it will be complete and ready to roll tommorrow

And thanks to everyone who rang, text and PM'ed me today with there concerns.

I'm going to guess you'll be without your car more than one day!
I hope they dont try and bleed the clutch hydraulics. Let me know how you go Col.
