I read with interest on the UK site where a fellow was experiencing a rattle in the rear end somewhere and thought he had it contained to the spring area on his PT. After a couple of weeks of experimenting and trying different things he finally found it.
And yes so simple to fix. He found that his spare wheel, you know the BIG space saver had worked loose and only needed tightening up. Cheap and simple to fix. Just need to check every now and again now especially if you don't use it to see if it has worked loose.

I occassionaly have a slight rattle in the rear somewhere if I go over corrugated bitumen, it's very slight and gone till next lot of rough road. Checked my spare and found it to be nice and tight but when hit solid with the ball of the hand underneath on the frame work it still seems to be a fraction loose. Will try to work out a way of making it tighter to see if that cures the prob. Anyone else found this?

the black pearl has wear indentations on the actual spares rubber from vibration , but no noises. one side of the dual exhaust sometimes vibrates on mine but only on idle

Coincidently, had to use the car on the weekend (1st time in about a month) and as I was driving down a rough section of road I heard a rattle sound coming from the boot, checked everything and couldn’t locate the source. Tonight I’ll check out the spare – thanks.

Geoff I thought that also as I have a changed exhaust system hanging out the rear. Doesn't really worry that much so will just keep looking when it annoys me too much.

Graham .Thats right I do run a larger muffler than normal.But I will check my spare hate to lose it on the way to Young. Geoff.
