One Dead Kumho 7 Years, 7 Months ago
one dead tyre. left hand front Kumho Exsta 245/45x17. I am not blaiming the tyre just yet.

But a cautionary tale this might be. It may also extend back a number of weeks when noticed the car ride was bit harsh, found tyre pressures low (around 27psi) driveability was ok. My fault for not checking the pressures as frequently as is usual. It had service around that time with no visual problems encountered.

Late Monday, noticed that car was pulling left. Check tyre pressures, front left down to 11psi. Thought nothing of it. Tuesday morning, flat as a tack. On removing it i found the wire belting sticking out of the tyre on the inside edge of the tread where it meets the sidewall. Indicating too much negative camber, it also appears that the wear is not symettrical around the tyre circumference.

The investigation continues.

I had a slow leak in a rear tyre recently and had the tyre removed as the air was leaking at the bead (where tyre seals to rim) and they found the chrome lifting and letting air out. Had to scrape the rust and chrome in some locations, so hope the rest won't have this problem.

After doing a bit of research, thanks Wendy for the PT specific stuff, i feel that the camber has changed more than it should have due to the simple process of lowering. From what i read you could expect around -1 degree for every inch of lowering. So mine is down 2 inches so -2 degrees but the left side was -3.5 degrees and is now back to -2.5 degrees.

I am beginning to suspect the strut tower brace. As i haven't had a stack and this is the only other change that has been made. But to prove it i have to remove it whilst on the wheel align machine. Whilst the mechanics are good they won't do it for free and i cant blame them for that.

Now heres another rub, when they did the 4 wheel align they found the rear thrust angle is out too. This is where the axle & wheels point off to one side of the car. Checking the manual some is allowed but i cant remember how much mine was out.
To be continued.......

when i first got the mags years ago I got a 4 wheel alignment. Same thing they told me the rears where out and a fair bit mor ethan they should be an dthey were both different. There's no easy way to adjust this and it requires shims etc. I pushed for a while to get Chrysler to fix it but it always seemed to go over there heads. I've never had bad tyre wear so I ended up letting it go.

Yeah that happens, sorry to hear.

I had a service department insist that my PT had to have 36psi like the owners manual said and he accually lowered the pressure in my tires. The only problem I have 295 30 20's on the rear Toyo recommended no less than 45psi 50-55psi was what Toyo recommended

Sounds like you need to have someone look at fitting camber bolts to the front, you can lower the camber to about 1/2deg neg with the right kit.

The rear is also adjustable with shims as well, but you need to get more than the average tyre shop to do it.
