TOPIC: control arm bushes

control arm bushes 5 Years, 1 Month ago
i have just finished changing the front lower control arm bushes on my pt today to nolelthane ones as the standard ones were well and truely stuffed. blue thunder has only done 44 000 so i was quite suprised when i took the bushes out and sore that the rubber had completely came apart, i knew they were split but i never thought it was as bad as they were.

here is a couple of pics, sorry for the bad quality.

while i was doing this i also found that the rubber boot on the ball joint had pinched and split causing it to almost come completely apart.

i read the old topic on this same subject but no one seemed to have the same problem so soon and no one elses seemed to turn out as bad when taken out, i took alot of care when taking the bushes out so i didn't damage them more so all the damadge is caused from driving. now that the new ones are in hopefully i wil get abit stiffer steering and alittle more control when cornering, though the stiffer lowered springs and the koni's already give me great control

Well after finding my front end developing a bit of a shimmy on brakes, i pulled down the calipers, and deglazed the calipers and genrally cleaned up the front end.
Being that the wheel was off and the car was in the air i checked my bushes and low and behold most had split, this is probably the cause of the shimmy in the 1st place Anyway, my question to you all is where have you bought your bushes from and how much did they cost?

Cheers

Aaron,
Had mine done at Pedders, the polyurethane ones fitted and cost me $410 in Wagga. Should be about the same or pretty close if you stick to Pedders.
Also a reminder to all others, Pedders do a full suspension check for around $14 if you aren't sure how your travelling along on your suspension. A GOOD way to spend 14 bucks. Could save you heaps later on with scrubbed tyres etc.

Aaron, just found my docket and the upper and lower bushes were $279 from Pedders in Wagga. They should all be about the same at any other Pedders outlets as they are all linked by computer network. The rest for mine was in the fitting and checked wheel alignment. Hope that helps a bit.

Re: control arm bushes 5 Years ago
Thanks Cheif, much appreciated. Will see if i can get a few prices next week. I must admit though, i'm not a fan of Pedders. Just a personal gripe.
DOTSPT, thanks for the tip, but i have read the posts relating to this and have found no mention on where anyone bought the bushes (fitting themselves) So being that HAZZA had started a topic recently i thought it best to ask the question here, as he has done as i am going to do and do it myself.
IF hazza doesn't reply soon, i'll throw a PM he may have some more info pertinate to my question.

Cheers

Pedders ripped me off on a previous car, I personally wouldn't touch them, I have dealt with Wholesale Suspensions at Penrith ph. 47212112 and found them straight up and down with no B------t, regardsl

Re: control arm bushes 5 Years ago
aaron i got my nolelthane bushes through my local repco store, i chose to only get the lower control arm kit but there is a full kit for all the bushes available aswell if you want to to them all at once. they were easy enough to fit myself, just the drivers side is alittle harder due to the lower engine mount but you shouldn't have to many dramas.

personally i wouldn't trust pedders as far as i could kick them becsue they have overcharged me and done low quality work for me in the past, idno what they are like everywhere else in the country but i just wouldn't trust them with my PT. this is just a personal oppinion on work they have done previously.

Hazza, you have picked it in one, they are the same all over (at least queesland anyway).

I am sure everybody is happy to pay top dollar for shoddy work NOT!!!

Apparently their fees are so high because they have franchise fees to pay, which they more than over compensate for through the customer, just the same thing that Midas do as well, their franchise fee used to be 12.5% (probably gone up by now).

Tried that and they advised me to go to local dealer as they only make them not supply them direct to customer.

Well I Paid $90 delivered in the end. So i am happy with that. There not nolethane, but the energy bushes. Essitially the same thing, but from all reports less likley to split like the nolethane ones.
