If I may make a suggestion, for a top of the line sound system, you might want to look at the Kenwood DNX8120. We had one installed in our PT a couple of months ago and are quite pleased with the results.

Along with the two JL Amps and JL speakers, you will love the sound and features of the head unit. The dash cover requires minor modification to make it fit properly, but the end results are fantastic.
What u have is what I've been looking for, aussie kenwood site dont have your model but have simular.
Do you have some pic's of your stereo installed, what did u modify? Would love some clear close up pics if that would be possable
I'll be going either kenwood, Clarion or Poineer I'm just concerned about what has to be cut to fit one & how it will look like finished.
The Chief mentions u have a website? have u got a link plz?
Thx
The opening for the radio has rounded sides, we had to add in some fibreglass pieces to "straighten" out the sides. That was the only mod we had to make, nothing had to be cut. WE used to have the Pioneer AVIC-N1 installed, but had a lot of trouble with it, so we installed the Kenwood.

I really don't have any good pictures of it installed, but the only difference in appearance is that the sides are not rounded like the factory (junk stereo), the entire opening is filled with the new unit. I'll see if I can snap some photos of the install.

Another thing, in the back area of the PT on the left side, there is a little cubby hole to store things. JL makes a stealth sub woofer that fits in that hole. You pop off the interior piece and install the sub, then re-install the panel.

We have 4 6X9 JL's in the doors, two JL tweeters in the front door post and 6 inch JL's installed in the rear post with the stealth sub and video screen in the headrests. I'll see if I can take some closeups tomorrow and post them up.

Here's some pictures of it, but I'll get closeups posted later.

ref maps etc .... IF the GPS has a sd card slot "thingie" & the USA maps are loaded on the hard drive of the unit .. U can have BOTH maps . just buy the AUSSIE maps on THE sd card thingie format ... that way when U go to the states U can take your GPS and have maps there too !! same principle when U buy an aussie one with map on hard drive .. if it has a slot U can buy the NZ maps or EU .. or USA .. take your GPS with U esp if you are going on a driving holiday or exteneded trip OR U go OS a lot or can lend to friends / family etc ... only problem then is your POIs & tourist and extra stuff including music can't be on the sd card as well ... I'm not all too happy with my NEW gps .. going to go back to ROSIE mark ONE back to radio topic .. in EU it is not std to get a radio in teh PT from teh dealer so there must be heaps of various ones availble in that direction ..

There are a couple of threads on here in regard to PT stereo's and MP3 players - in that most don't (don't know about the new models) and some have gone and had new systems put in ("RT" is one...)

I also have the stacker installed so plenty of tunes in normal CD's with that for me lol

The 2001 to 2005 PTs are a bit more straight forward than the 2006 on models.

The earlier ones you need to buy an adapter that lets you slot a standard single DIN stereo where the factory one came out. Not too bad as the 1½ din in the PT was also common in a lot of other US models including GM. You can get these in two types, a flat face where the stereo in the middle or one where the stereo is set higher with a small pocket underneath. Should only cost $30-35.

www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=99-6504

The new Chrysler stereos have a very specific shape that is unique to Chrysler. It's still 1½ din but has the two round controls sticking out the sides. I'm sure someone in the US has an adapter for this.

Well I have bought a new stereo. I have an adaptor socket to plug in the harness in the dash.

I am setting up a DIN 1 system and will post details once I get it going.
Does anoyone have a wiring diagram or colour code for a 2007 PT Cruiser Touring GT? I have the speakers worked out it is the power that I'm concerned about. I don't want to make smoke.

I will take any diagram then I will verify it with a meter.

That's where I got my adaptor and wiring harness from. Took 8 days to arrive from the US. Thats faster than Aussie Post can do across Australia.

My stereo is available in DIN2 version. I didn't want all the hastles of trying to make it fit.

Checkout this site for what some go through to put a stereo in a Cruiser.

Too much work for me.

Re: Stereo & MP3 (NEW STEREO INSTALLATION) 3 Years, 4 Months ago
yeah have seen the kits for putting sterio's in but even the double din wont really fit without cutting.
Copied from that ebay link this is for the double din which really aint a double it makes it a single,
*Fits Vehicles with Factory Navigation radio only. If you do not have Factory Navigation you still wnt to be able to use this kit, you will need to buy the Fatcory surround from Chrysler/Dodge that is used on the Factory Navigation Vehicles. This this the only way to put double din in to these cars.

Sucks imo considering they have them in the US to fit PT's
I havent given up just gonna take me a little longer need my money tree to bloom

Re: Stereo & MP3 (NEW STEREO INSTALLATION) 3 Years, 4 Months ago
UPDATE.

Old Stereo is out. Not too hard. Wiring for new system almost complete. The adaptor supplied had one wire in the wrong place. Accessories power (Grrrr). Took me an hour to figure that out.

I gave it a little test resting on my knee. Radio ok. DVD (played Russell Morris "The Real Thing"). \ Can't wait to get it finished.

Thanks Phil for the tip on the hand brake lead.

Tommorow I have to work in the morning so I will wire the rear view camera and install the radio.

One problem I have found is the dash of my cruiser is curved which makes fitting the plastic cover on the front outside of the stereo tricky. I will have to do a little reseach on how to fit or replace it.

I have been taking photos of every stage but if I stuff it up you won't see them. If it works then I'll share them.
