I purchased a 2004 Burgundy model about 3 months ago from SA and I live in NSW.(dry state to wetter state)
After the first big rain down pour the central locks played up. It was like the car was possessed. Locks locking and unlocking continuously.

So now every time we have heavy rain Linda Blair rears her ugly head then after a day of no rain all is OK again.

Any ideas anyone besides an exorcism?
thanks

R U sure it is just when it rains .... ?? mine did it in the dry .. when I was sleeping & then all teh time !! .... one day I'll get mine sorted till then .. it is use the key all the way & I have the dash mat over front dash is in the study with the other parts .. still easier than having a flat battery ... I suggest U check out the areas a where water may get into wiring ... ie loom goes into the back tail gate .. and into the doors .. see if those area have wet spots ... or if the rubber grommets are missing .... apart from that trial & error .. start with the main controllers in the doors .. can't remeber which is the main one drivers??? ... if one of them is wet or faulty then it will also cause the problem of the phantom locking !! ... I can send U a copy of the report that was given to me .. fax or post?? not sure if it will help ??

Thanks!
yes so far it only happens after a heavy rain. Like 6 -12 hours later and last for 2- 5 hours unless there's another bout of heavy rain.

another weird thing I got an email alerting me of your post here but the email had different things to whats written here online?:

disconnect the remote module that way U will stop the problem & use the locks manually until ... U have an auto elec check out the drivers door & passenger door actuators .... if they are OK it is the central remote thing in the picture .. U need to get that NEW from Chrysler & have the remote system re coded .. make sure it works .. then put the lot back together

can I ask what you mean by: 'the central remote thing in the picture'- which picture?

thanks again for your help.
Might be good to get a copy of your report.

wondered about that ... my FIRST reply at this end didn't appear to go through properly or it may have been ME .. it was late!! .... then I tried again ( computers!!) BUT thought your problem IF wet weather only may NOT be exactly the same as mine .. so taking the dash apart maybe too drastic .... start with trouble shooting easier first ....
picture I refeered to was earlier in this topic ... hmm lets see .. how can I get it here ??? .. lets hope I don't get glitch again ..

done .. it is the module with the green label .. we had to go this far as the locking problem just kept going & going .. I could not drive home .... took her to the dealer .. thjey plugged it back in cleared the codes and said sorry we can't make it do it .. hmm .. any how presto I got back to work and got it to "dance " first GO using the key .. any how I was lucky the dash was not back together ... so I just unplugged the module again ... pain in the preverbial when I have shopping or passengers but at least the car is locked when I leave her unattened & I have NO flat bettery .... hey maybe try this your self ... when dry ... use the KEYS in your drivers door lock several times ... it it faults (dances)then it may be the same problem .... I can send U the two reports on the codes ... print ups from the dealer .... NO quick fix ... welcome to send me your snail mail address or fax via PM ... and I can send them !!

if U have a look at pic .. U can see Phantom took the middle of the dash apart and the covers on each side of the windscreen ... this is the type of thing he does for a LIVING .. so it seemed to be easy for him I would not be able to do it with out breaking something but I think if U take it carefully it is doable !! ... many in the club have also tried to describe how it is done here on forum some where ....... some one more BETTERER at writing might jump on again .. TIP I noticed Phantom covered the screw drivers / metal tools with a thin rag when using them any where near the plastic trims & paint for fear of scratching anything ...at work they have plastic covered tools for the "trim pull car apart" area but we were at seachange & worked ok ...
I've taken some pics that might help ..
I needed a reminder .. dash before the work!!

start by taking the window switches out this reguired a phillips head I think ??, the knobs off the aircon controls, they just pulled off some how and the front of vent surround

then the side parts pic of them off

and the underside has the clips U have to be careful U don't break

the dash yes only hade two screws and U had to kinda lift a little and slide back .. there is a rubber seal along windscreen that we were careful we didn't damage ..
under side of dash

what dash looks like at the moment ... phantom put the front back together leaving the dash cover off & the side ...

Looks like I am adding my 2003 PT to the list as it is up & down with the locking system & turning the interior lights on. May have started when we had the cruise control installed? & the fog lights would occasionally come on when turning right. Bloody Gremlins must have come across from Mexico & have just woken up after 6 years.
I hope it is a simple wire shorting & can be simply found.

Had the PT checked out today... He said it is the battery & 1 of the cells had collapsed fluctuating the amps. $145 for a new battery + labour $90. just hope it is that simple !!!
