Ive never actually looked at these but if it was me I would wire them to the door switch so they only come on when the door is opened then fade out the same as the interior light.I think that would would be better than being on all the time.

I believe they are an accessory that can be purchased/installed thru a dealer - would be cheaper to do yourself -

They cannot be wired into the door switch, as there is no door switch. The turning off and on of the central light is controlled by the computer. You therefore have to tap into the wire that runs to the central light.

- look at the dome light and find the colour wire that runs out of it
- remove the interior A pillar on the drivers side and look for the same coloured wire
- disconnecting that plug will confirm you have the correct wire
- it's then a simple matter of joining the wires together (with a cable joiner). Then they will only come on when the interior light is on.

There were some detailed instructions published in one of the Club Magazines in 2006 when I installed mine. The instructions were for a 2001 model, but should be similar for any year model.

Patriot I will get the back issues out ... I've not taken too much notice of this fabulous option as I know I would NOT be allowed to HAVE it !! & I am sure that I would NOT be allowed loose on the project either .. but DE INSTRUCTIONS do seem to make sense ..... as when detailing not noticed a switch for doors . clever PTs have pooters

I realise there is no actual switch as earlier cars but there must be something that recognises the door has been opened.
An easy way would be to run a bit of speaker wire up the right hand front pillar, the interier light wires are white and yellow, should be easy to work out with a test light.

I forgot I had these. They came new with the car, but only work (and are very dim) when I have the driving lights on. Who gets out of the car with their driving lights on? Especially with that screaming warning tell you to turn them off.

Do they just clip in and out? I'd like to wire them in properly seeing as they are there.
