Factory radio 5 Years, 10 Months ago

I have been puzzled as to what the LW function on the car radio does. I have tried scanning up and down the dial & the best I cna come up with is Camden Airport's ATC recorded message (try listening to that for more than 10 minutes )
So my question is, "Does the LW setting on the radio do any thing or is it just nice to have AM/FM/LW printed on the radio face?"
BTW I have had no luck getting the traffic report to work. You know the one that is supposed to scoll messages on the radio face if the radio station transmitts that sort of info (not all do).
I could go on also about the other preprogrammed settings that I have had no luck with either, but I'll leave that for later.

thought it was just me and my lack of electronic skills SO I have not said anything !!! ... I have manged to program a 3 stations in (the boys at work found a couple extra) .. the dealer didn't set the radio up at ALL .. or fill in the books that is another story ... I don't appear to be able to get AM stations have MW & FW??? so I just leave it on FM and hope that what I have has MUSIC . IF not then the CD goes in ... real HIGH tech for a American car .. maybe that is why the EU people get their own radio ....... hmm not going to have dealer touch car for service .. but I will add to my list so when I get a day off I can get waranty thigns fixed .. .but I will stay with car so they NO wash it or scratch it !!

The LW is programed in australia as an emergency station on road accidents or say inside sydney tunnel and you click this station and it will give you a report. Well that is the theory behind the system.
There is a system in Australia I guy designed for all emergency vehicles that when the hit the siron it will send out a 100 meter radius in front to be picked up on LW. So useless info. I was in melb about a month ago and drivibg a rental and went thru the tunnel and a message came thru the radio.

OK, so the long wave radio function is not worth wasting time on.
It was interesting to see how much space was devoted to the program settings (can't exactly recall the term) in the owner's book. A whole 2 pages on things like Country Music - good for listening to country music...etc. Is it some sort of electronic graphic equaliser setting thing that makes a style of music sound better (there is a setting called talk back - for listening to talk back radio- can't see the point)

I think mine had that too. I think it is the newer models without the separate Base and Treble controls. You just have a number of presets instead.
My advice, rip it out ant go MP3.

New Crusier owner and can't get AM radio to tune in any stations. FM works perfectly but it picks up no stations at points where I know AM stations exist.
Anyone have the same problem and know the solution?
Yes....I do like listening to AM talkback sometimes.....

It may depend on what year the pt .. and where U are ... but U should get reception in city areas regardless .... check antenna perhaps?? my 2005 has shocking radio reception compared to Phantoms 2005 HAVA (local made)and 2009 PT Black opal ..... difference of chalk & cheese .. so Plums & Roses is on CBD MELB cruisin duty (not often lately) & I use the ten cd stacker when she does venture out .. Black Opal does the longer hauls ( when I'm solo) & hardly resort to using the Cds .... no one incl Chrysler (service or other wise) has been able to explain why .. I have asked if any one has any tips to increase the range of Ps&Rs but to no avail .....
I have just read topic again .. and noted it is a few years old .. leaving my origianl reply up & adding !! ... SO plums & roses hasn't changed she still gets LOWSEY AM reception and bad other ... I will see what Blackopal does with Am in the city .. darn today woudl have been perfect we went into town .. tomorrow he is staying at work while I do FRENCH duty .
NOTE I live 35kms out of the CBD .. when I travel 15kms OUT (just at the end of the Pakenham by pass) I get NO CBD radio at all on the 2005 .. but can get CBD radio on the 2009 till NEARLY Taralgon just as U get to the open cut ... U will have to check the map (sorry) ... must be about 90kms further .. it has me puzzled too ... sorry I'm not too much help with your question ... tis frustrating though

Hi adunsford
I have an 03 model. 2GB (87.3) is my AM choice for talk back, well at least during the week when I'm driving around at work in the work ute. I normally find when I'm in the PT on the weekends my choice of talk back is my wife
But yes i do get AM in my PT. To be honest I wouldnt have a clue on how many stations I can get though. I live in Wollongong but get reception ok.

Way out west with not a lot of radio stations to pick from I find am better than fm.
Our 02 with aerial on front guard doesn't have the station range that our 04 has with a roof mounted aerial.
eg 2WG, Wagga am we can hold to about half way to Albury in the 02 and in the 04 all the way so maybe it could have a lot to do with aerial location and year models with possibly a better radio fitted in the latter. My opinion only on testing of both radios in different models.
