Yes, knew I had to get it done before the renewal was due so that I didn't lose out for next year's insurance cover of the 1 free replacement per year etc...

I'm about to change to HBA for my insurance...

Free screen... 2 Years, 9 Months ago
My screen went - 8 inch crack, bottom of passenger side. Rang O'Brien and was quoted $450. Then I told them the car is a part of my salary packaging and managed by McMillan Shakespear, "oh, great" sayi the operator lady "we have an account with them". O'Brien incredibly polite throughout, get a guy to fix my windscreen on his way to work at 6.30am while I'm asleep - just had to leave the car unlocked.

Get onto the car at 8.00am to go to work and notice the fit is not good - sticks out alittle at the top corners. Now I've read this thread I assume it's the cheap windscreen, which is otherwise pretty good with a blue sunshade strip bit across the top. What's worse is the bill for $900 left in the car. Spoke to O'Brien and told them I was quoted $450 and I won't pay that until the scren fits. They don't complain but spin a load of rubbish in their explanations. Anyway, after ringing me a few times and promising loads, they stopped calling...leaving me with a free screen!

I may go OEM next time. The cheap screens are okay but there is that fit problem which won't bother most people, and they do appear to scratch easily.

From what I've read here I believe it was an encapsuled screen. Part of the rubbish they were teling me was that they were having problems with how the screens are stored and transported - vertically which damaged the seals? I think they were just trying to blind me with science!

Fitted problems are cosmetic only.

We bought the PT about 6 weeks ago now and did a comparison on insurance companies - always looking to save a $ - we went with Shannons who were around $300 cheaper than NRMA and automatically include one windscreen replacement (or any other window) per year.
Might be worth considering changing insurance companies???

Brisbane Metro and it's cheaper to insure the PT and the trailer with Shannons than it is to just do the car through any of the other majors. Have reduced it even further by having it on limited mileage - as are all our cars now.

That's ok if you can afford to have multiple cars and leave the PT on 'limited' k's and only bring it out on 'special occasions'... Most people only have one car to do everything in...

I know it depends on where you live - it depends on the insurance company as to what the individually rate the suburb you're on... Even within the same company they have different ratings for car or house - I know one of the places I got quotes from had here as bad rating for one type and good for the other...

Just suggesting that each person has different requirements and should check all options, not just go with who everyone else goes with...

I've had my windscreen replaced some time after tassie "GSC" '05 (I think early 06) through my insurance by O'Brien with the encapsulated screen and have had no problems with it - just lost my 'tinted' glare strip, but the new screen has the blue tinted stripe across the top of it...

So they're still like the rest of them it's not just about the 'enthusiast'

Re: Windscreen replacement ??? 2 Years, 9 Months ago
My PT is my every day car - travels approx 300kms per week just to work and back and then all the other stuff I do. I have got a good rating and do live in a little country town they'd never heard of but was still $300 cheaper than NRMA given all the same criteria. NRMA wanted an extra $45 per year for windscreen cover. I agree it pays to shop around given different people's circumstances but I'd always go with the windscreen option.
Let's hope none of us need to find out how good our insurance is anyway - they say insurance is like a parachute - you never know how good it is until you really need it.
