Windscreen replacement ??? 5 Years, 4 Months ago
Help!

I've heard around the traps that people have had issues with getting replacement windscreens??? Is this correct and what's the go??

My 'stealth' run north was not so 'stealth' as I copped a beauty of a ROCK - ok it wasn't that big but it hit with a bit of force and gave me a shock - right down the bottom of the window in the black section on drivers side.... I didn't actually see at first that there was any damage - probably too many damn 'bugs' splattered everywhere to find the chip..... well now its about an 8 inch crack up the windscreen came up today

Just checked my insurance policy and I dont have the 'windscreen replacement' option BUGGER!!!!

But anyway... just wanted to know if people have had problems with windscreens and any advice you can give or things to look out for would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks
Dean

Dean before it gets moisture in it, get straight to any windscreen replacement place and see if they can put gas into it. Had the same a couple of years ago with a big chip and crack about 3 or 4 inches long, $25 to have it done and you can't see it at all unless you know where it was.
I got some free chip patches from Windsceens O'Briens and carry them with me all the time and as soon as I get a chip I whack it straight on the chip, not that I get many but better to safe than sorry.

Its actually a resin they put in ,and last time I did one (used to be a windscreen fitter) it was about $60 to have a chip or crack fixed depending on the length of the crack.
Even if they say they can repair it there will be no guarantee it won't keep cracking, and you will see the repair.

You want have troubles getting a windscreen these days, there is factory ones plus ther is also a aftermarket one that is mich cheaper.

They always seem to crack doen the bottom where that black part is. I think that might be were all the pressuer is? I did one years ago when the car was only 3 months old. On the way back Namnbucca this year I made it all the way to Gosfor then got hit by a rock on the passenger that cracked it. I do have windscreen replacement on my insurance but also havce a free crack repair so I gave it a go. It’s been fien so far. It doesn’t completley get rid of it but sometimes you can hardly see it.

Too late for that - it was washing the car that brought up the crack!!

It's about 8 inches long and in front of the driver - they dont touch it if its in front of the driver's view

Unfortuneately that's correct, mine was up the top on passengers side so didn't matter that much. Count the dollars, and hopefully you can get through to pink slip time or do you have a bit longer for that one. I had my 1st pink slip this year and they didn't even see where the crack was.

Could have been worse. It could have only been 3 inches.

Dont require pink slip for first 3 years isn't it!? Therefore thats ok 'til July '08 ... but it's not going to last that long.... the crack has grown since yesterday, somehow I think Im stuffed!

Sorry to hear that mate, look around for the best deal you can get. So far I have found the Windscreen Doctor the best around here. Some of the bigger ones charge extra for there name. Have looked into this extensively. I'm lucky as Shannon's cover my windscreen in my policy.

LOL R/T classic.

Dean – just go and visit Windscreens O’Brien and get a quote. Tell them that you have heard about a cheaper aftermarket screen that is available. I think the factory one is aroudn $1000

$1000

It wasnt that expensive to replace the windscreen in my last car..... looks like I'll have to find that violin case and visit the bank!
