Hi all,

Does anyone have any tips on how to get back the showroom shine on my 2001 PT?

I had tried McGuires car polish but I still can see some very slight scratches on my car bonnet....probably when my wife brought it to the car wash....it has been annoying me for months...any ideas on how I can get back the showroom shine short of having a total respray job.

Try a very light cut polish then a soft over the top and see how that goes. I've been lucky by only using a soft 3 or 4 times in the one spot and has taken it out.

Not sure if it is too agressive but have you tried Meguiars DEEP CRYSTAL Paint Cleaner?

I used it on my Mini Moke to bring the paint up before I had it entered in a car show it worked really well. It is a 1st stage to be used before polishing. It does say in it's label that it "removes surface contamination & other brands polish/wax while restoring colour"

Never used it before my PT, but read on forums about clay bar. A special clay, you keep it wet and keep rubbing with only mild pressure until it glides over the paint, then you're done. I've tried it and am convinced. It removes scratches, swirls, bugs, ... Rinse and polish after using.
I like that it's not chemical, and can't cause harm.

Ok if you really want to do it good, it's gonna be a big job but worth it.

As Don was saying I'd recomend starting with a thing called a clay bar. You then need a few different types fo polishes. Mothers and Meguiars both have these three stage kits that are pretty good.

If you've got some dodgey scraches I recomend using Meguiars Scratch X (Black Tube) or I think its called RE-PO and it's and a big black and red tube. I find somestuff and either put up some links or send you and email.

oh forgot to add your going to need some really good polishing cloths. Ther not cheap an you'll need at least 2. You can get them at Supercheap etc that are Microfibre and also get the little foam applicator pads. All makes life a lot easier

HEy Dorothy,

You are putting me onthe spotlight here.....

Now I have really got pressure to do it.....

I know about car wash...kept telling my wife about it....but she still does it....
now probably with the sratch mark she is beginning to sink in....sometimes I feel that she thinks that I am more precious about that car than her....Heeee

Come and think of it....I never really did have a pic of my car....thanks for the pic.....
