Fog Lamp Adjustment 5 Years, 8 Months ago
|
|
|
Recently we fitted some front fog lamps to my 03 Classic. Genuine Mopar. My son fitted them no problem but he couldn't adjust them as per the detailed procedure in the fitting instructions as it requires a special screw driver tip - like a 5 pointed star. The car was due for a service and the headlights were out so figured the dealer could do it. Despite the clear Mopar instructions, guess whos says there is no adjustment possible! They suggested you don't take any notice of what you read in the instructions. I think they know more about the Hyundais they sell and not their Chryslers.
Any body had any experience with these and can comment on the adjustment?

Tighten the nuts at the top to point them down more. Put a washer behind the nuts at the top to point them more upwards??? That'd be my blonde solution! I've had mine off a few times and didn't realise they needed adjusting!

So annoyed with the crap the dealer told me about the fog lamps not being adjustable I pulled one out today to take a clear look at it. Not sure why the lamp pivots in its outer casing and has an adjuster screw when it is none adjustable! Obviously this dealer knows nothing about PTs. They won't be seeing mine again, especially when the mechanic was mouthing off adamantly that there was no adjustment as I showed his supervisor the Mopar instructions.

It's called Torx - I think who ever came up with it should be shot. It's similar to, but different from, allen-head. You can try an allen wrench - sometimes they'll work; sometimes a phillips screwdriver will work.
In The US, parts stores carry the tools - aren't that expensive.
I can see no advantage to Torx, other than it forces you to buy another tool.

I've got one of thoose littel tools, but it would be cheaper for you to by one than drive up. Sorry, good luck. I'll ask Keith if he's played around with it seeing as he's replaced all globes.

Is that the same type of 'head' that you need for the tail light and rear fog lights?

Wendy,
I think they are the same but haven't checked if they are the same size.
If anyone is interested I have the Mopar adjusting instructions and photographs of the fog lamp clearly showing the adjuster.

similar Wendy but I think the fog light onme is smaler. You can get away with just a flat head screwdriver for the tailights

I've already got the right sizes. Just couldn't remember what head was needed.

Yes, they did the tails right - the head, while torx, also has a slot for a blade-screwdriver - similar to a phillips head that also has a slot across.
