This appears to be a VERY common problem for PT Cruisers with grey plastic bumpers (ie. unpainted).

You might see strange lines and markings that start to appear. They look as though masking tape has been taken off with the outline/adhesive being left behind.

If you think you've got the same problem, read this existing topic, and then contact your local dealership.

Bumpers replaced under warranty

I have the same problem with tape marks on the front and rear bumpers. I have contact Chrysler in Poole (UK) and they said to bring it in to be looked at. They did try to say that it was my problem but I told them that lots of people had reported same tape marks. Hopefully they will replace (or re-spray) bumpers. If they re-spray - which would be cheaper - then I would ask if they could colour match to red as I have the grey standard bumpers at the moment.

Will be taking it in on Friday.... so fingers crossed!

Just had mine painted. the story goes like this..i wasn't real keen having on body colour matched bumpers, but in the two months it took to get a loan car sorted by the dealer i had become resigned to having blue bumpers.

I used this time to check out the panel shop they were going to get to do the job and was satisfied they would do a good job. When i dropped the car in to the dealer i checked the job card and it stated "paint to match body colour as per P.W.A". when i got it back it had grey bumpers. they had painted them grey and repainted the rest of the fascia panel to match the car..viola no more stone chips on the front.

when i quizzed the service manager about why no blue bumpers "we always do them grey" was the answer. but he had no answer for the job card instructions or the fact that others have had there bumpers matched at this dealer or been given the option at different dealers. So now i am back with the colours i started with and not totally unhappy, except with the service people who dont know jack about PT's . Damn joint hyundai dealers.

The moral is be very specific about what you ask for and confirm what they are going to do.

Took my car in to the dealer in Poole, UK and at first a sales woman looked at them and said that there is nothing that they know off can remove the marks. She then got one of their service guys to look at them and he polished them and said "there you go. Its fixed?"

I said that it is only a temp fix and would really like a long term solution and they said that there was nothing else they could do apart from polish them when I wash them. At this point the marks started to re-appear!

I kept on about a permanent fix and quoted what it said in the warrenty about blemished bodywork etc. So now they said I have to take it in again for it to be looked at!!!!!!!!! That will be this tuesday?!
