TOPIC: Bumpers...

Bumpers... 6 Years ago
Hi there

I don't like the numberplate thing on the front of the 2001 PT's.
Can you take them off?
If so... Are you able to attach the number plate to the bumper?
Anyone here done this?
Or is there another solution?

Anyone have a later model bumper for sale

Take off your plate, and you'll see screws that hold the holder to the bumper. The holder comes off, but now you've got holes in the bumper - that don't match the plate holes.

Don’s exactly right, it’s one of the first things we tell new owners when buying tell the dealer not to put the number plate holder on.

Once you have the holder off you can just line up your number plate straight drill some small holes and use self tapping screws to hold it in, but as Don said once you take it off there will be holes that don’t match the holes to srew the number plate in and are wider than the plates. There’s a few options, cheap one go to the hardware and you can but little rubber grommets that you can put in the holes to clean it up a bit. On black you never notice it. The dearer option is to take it to a panel shop and get them to fix the holes up.

Yes - thankfully I was told to ask they not put the plate holder on the car - and when I mentioned it to the dealer (SVM - Chatswood) they said they do not put it on anyway cuz it looks crap! lol (ok - not an exact quote there)

... I just dont like the number plate sittin out the very front of the bumper anyway..... Blake took care of that for me *grin*

Ok just went and inspected the bumpers... the tape marks are quite visible. Don't know what chance I have for getting them replaced as I'm the second owner of the car.
The car was purchased in 2002 brand new so the 3 yr warranty has finished.

I was told it was a recall !! ... but they didn't tell any one .... they have not had to pay for a lot (like me) who had them done of their own pocket ... there was an OLD post some where ... C if I can find it !!!! found a topic .. need to know whats wrong with your PT and how it went ??? .. a few mentions about the tape marks and Blackwell mentions had bumpers repaired from tape marks even though out of waranty ..... hope that helps ... I am sure wendy & others will have more accurate comments ..

It was a service bulletin not a recall and you could possibly get it done if you complained about the issue during the warranty period - with a fight of course!

Good Idea Wendy. Dotspt I'll have a go.
The car yard is sure taking their time on fixing my aerial though...

Re: Bumpers... 6 Years ago
Funny you should mention having your aerial fixed Gemibabe ... that's how I had my bumpers painted!

My aerial was broken off by some person or persons unknown so I asked the service department to replace it when I had my car in for service. They did, but scratched the paintwork while putting on the new aerial. Naturally, they booked in my car to have the scratch sprayed at their expense.

When I took the car in for the scratch to be painted I pointed out the marks on the bumpers ... they had them sprayed too ... including the numberplate holder on the front!

I hope you get satisfaction with your situation Gemibabe.
Brian.

Latest report I've seen was to use a torch on the tape marks - seriously! A heat gun might work also...
Apply some heat, rub with a coarse rag. I can't verify myself - had the problem with my original Pt.
