TOPIC: Bumpers...

Re: Bumpers... 6 Years ago
Hi all, I've recently purchased a Blue 2001 PT Classic. I had read alot of your posts prior to buying the car so I thought I had a good idea as to what to look out for...I'm in Hobart and the vehicle was 'imported' from Paddington NSW (don't ask how I found out) by a local car dealer who are now the Chrysler agents....it only had 12500 kms on the clock...and as best as i can figure it appears to be genuine...one thing i looked out for was the bumper discolouring...at the time it looked fine, but you guessed it, the white 'tape' marks have appeared....as this car is outa warranty, can anyone suggest any other remedy....or am i stuffed?....

You might want to look at getting them spray painted to match the colour of you PT Problem solved,

You could either get it painted anyway... or I've heard some of the guys talking about ways you can clean it up so its less-noticable... hopefully one of them will see this and let you know...

This is a well known problem with the grey bumper model. I'd try to hit Chrysler up for a paint job before you do anything else. The worst that can happen is they say no.

kevyk, regular use of Mothers Back to Black should definitely get the bumpers looking schmick again. Depending on how bad it is a couple of coats over a few days should make a good improvement and then regular use is the key to the marks not coming back.

Well many thanks for all your advice and comments.....I'll take a few pics and send them to Chrysler first to see what the response will be.....then look at the other options....once again I appreciate your help.

It's just as well people buy Chrysler, (whether it is a PT cruiser or other model) for the style....'cause their service 'SUCKS'...Two emails sent, one to Head office, one to our local dealer.....a number of phone calls...strange how one always gets a different person when one phones...a letter is now on the way, lets see what this will do...i'm not holding my breath...yes i'm p****** off...all i asked for was some assistance

We were also lucky to have the bumpers replaced and colour coded them to match the car but this was under warranty

Unfortunately I have to agree that Chrysler service does SUCK, :binky:

As I have been down that road a couple of times for other reasons,

All I can suggest is keep pestering them and if all else fails contact Fair trading?? :angry1: :angry3: :angry4: :angry5: :angry6: :angry7: :angry8: angry9:

Good luck!!

P.S. I would'nt hold your breath waiting, LOL

Kevyk...

I'm in the same situation. I haven't had the energy to go up to one of the Chrysler dealers in Perth yet...

I figure the bumpers are flawed, whether under warranty or not, they should replace or paint... It is a fault and they are well aware of it.

Did they send out letters to all the owners of 2001 Pt's to rectify the problem????

Let me know how you get on...

I'm going to head up to Wanneroo Chrysler and see what they can do...

To be honest, I'd be happy if they went halves in painting, but will only suggest this once they have said nup... if they still refuse, a nice quck call to Consumer Affairs... should do that trick.

No. They have no legal requirement to send out any information regarding this problem as it's not a safety issue. They're only required to notify owners if it's a recall. They don't even have to tell you in person that the bulletin exists and will only act on it if you know about the issue, question them about it and really chase it up.
