Timming belt cover 2 Years, 10 Months ago
Ok just when i thought my pt was runnig really well with no problems in ages. I have a slight problem.

The last few weeks i have heard a funny noise at the front right. Hmm what could that be. Wasnt major at first but now everytime i drive it comes and goes. 3 weeks ago i was revering out the drive way and the car was screaming at the stage i just stopped it where it was.
I looked under bonnet to find that the timing belt cover has worn through .
When looking at car from the front its at the back of the cover at the top.left jhand side of the car. Its now at the stage where you can see part of the gear.
Has anyone had this problem before. The car was just in to be looked at and still has this problem.
Where in melb do other pters take there cars.

Im just concern that with this rubbing it will damage the belt and if that breaks hmm its pretty much f.......
Belt was changed over at about 140K and care is now at 172K.

any ideas would be great. i want to get this fixed asap

I think we have mentioned see Sam at MOPAR Motors a couple of times! The longer you leave it the more expensive it gets. Any noise should be looked at immediately.

Brian in Melbourne modified his timing belt cover years ago when he turbo'd his car so that he could change the belt from the top instead of the bottom. I'm guessing it's there for aesthetic reasons only...

FireFly has had the noise from new .almost 6years old . its more noticable when the pt is cold and goes away when warm. have had it back to the dealer when it first happened years ago twice under warranty. From memory they fitted spacers to get the cover away from the belt. there should be a early post on this back in 2004 round july sometime. The pt still has it at times when cold but Ido not pay to much attention now as it never seems to worry it. firefly has done about 63,000 klms with the complaint.

The noise is far worse over the weekend. Tonight i had a look again annd more wear oon plastic cover is evident. There is a black like dust i have noticed to. Not sure if its plastic wearing or hoping its not from belt. Car now off the rd untill its looked at.

I wouldnt drive it to far if it's wearing through the Timing Cover. Could cost you a lot more if the belt breaks.
With the black powder/residue wipe some on your fingers and the rub it for a short moment and smell it. If it smells like burnt rubber your going to need to replace the belt.
