Cruise control interference 2 Years, 9 Months ago
I have had a "few" times where while on cruise control the car has accelerated for no apparent reason, or was there a hill???? ... one such occasion I DID note that there was no hill or reason for the SPEED (down shift) shrugged it off thought AUTO transmission caught me un awares ??? .. maybe I was not paying attention ??? .. I hit brake as 140kms (revs to red as well!!) NOT a good look !!! ... reset cruise & kept going .......... till after GangsterPT put in the newsletter ref possible unexpected engine acceleraton Warning (see April edition) .... I do have a CD mounted in the dash NO blue tooth etc and cruise control is standard chrysler?? .... if this is related I have NO idea & it is only twice that it really kicked in I think ..... this prompted me to put up this topic so members can put up if they have had a similar problem ..... & for me to log & keep track IF it happens again ... I don't use the CB just have it on to monitor for flash for cash or road incidents & when we go on club cruises !!! ... I will also PAY more atttention IF it happens again .. thanks gangster ..

interesting .. do U think the laser on the stacker could have some issues OR are U pulling my leg !.. thanks for posting ... we will have to compare notes .. I didn't use my cruise control for the first two years with city driving ... only started on the 3 hour hwy runs so I don't get booked .. up hill & down dale NOT the best route to be using it on though ... my trip on monday was in the dark .. only one spot where I thought what ??? .. doubt that was necessary & had to pull her up .. the other spots were on the hills.. I will be taking the cruise control off maybe even use the stick shift feature (figure that out first) ... that way make the climb a little more fuel efficient & not so scary ...

Do you mean wet or really wet?

I have always used my cruise control in the wet with no problems. Not aware of any advice not to use in the wet.

hi dot, if i remember right,i think in one of your last pics you put on here, you had a ICOM PRO-400 uhf radio near your gear stick,

now these units do give out 25-watts on uhf, if thay have been turned up,and if you got this unit second hand well it might have all ready been done with out you knowing,

now what im saying is .........is there any way when you had the cruse control turned on ..that some thing or some one bumped the mic to send out a carryer...ie keyed it up ...

and if you cant remember well the next free time you have take some one with you and when on a strate road turn on the cruise control and set it ...then a min or two later then send a blank carryer or give a call out for some one over the radio ....do this 2-3 times in the space of 2 mins...
and see what happens.....

it might be it or it might not
the reason i say this is becouse ive been in to radio for the last 26 years and being a radio ham also i have heard of this thing going on....
its from the back of the radio sending out dirty (R-F) signels.to the antenna.so it does afect the on bord comp with bad (R-F) field going around the car....

hope this helps ...(zebra)

Re:Cruise control interference 1 Year, 3 Months ago
TOPIC IS cruise control ..our do not appear to conflict with CB or radio BUT Plums & Roses has got issues!! see earlier post ... Because

Black Opal (mainly)does the country runs, doesn't use as much fuel & doesn't MISS a rev .. set him (cruise control) on 110kms and he sits (cruises) on 2500 revs the whole way (where permitted) no matter what the hill or dale .. no over reving (screaming) kicking down or ANYTHING !! .. a real pleasure to drive (cruise with) ... electric drivers seat works a TREAT on 3 hour runs ... not to mention RADIO reception (see other Topic)...

mechanic (doctor) suggested maybe Plums & Roses has a vacuum leak ?? or the auto is set up different OR that is just HER (nature of that model) ??? .. U should try to see what others have on the same stretch of HWY ???!? .. (thinking) Walhalla might be a good test cruise ... BUT we would need a 2.4lt auto .. MID model (2005) to compare with .. doubt that will happen but worth a thought

also at Caribbean Gardens we had a visitor that SHOWED me the part that differs on early ones that don't have cruise control & those that do ... so now I know what "bit" under bonnet we are talking about !

Re:Cruise control interference 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Many (many, many) years ago (late 80's actually) I used to work for a mob who imported cruise contol units for the aftermarket (also fitted quite a few myself); anyhoooo, we often had "spiking" problems caused by Car-stereo amplifiers, CB radios, faulty insulation on spark plug leads (believe it or not!), etc..... This was late 80's, and aftermarket, would have though factory stuff would be ok, but could be caused by one of the above.
Also, we recently had a rental (2010 Ford XR6) courtesy of NRMA insurance. On the drive down the Hume (to Yack) noticed that it was totally ok (despite being auto) except where it was steep uphill followed by steep downhill. Extremely evident between Marulen & Goulburn, set at 115 and got to 140 before it kicked down, not a very comfortable feeling. After that I just hovered over brake pedal in similar situations and 'stomped' when necessary.
I think this problem is related to the processor in the unit; i.e. how often does it monitor the speed, and what is the reaction time... Units I used to sell did twice a second monitoring with same (half a second) reaction time.
Soooooooooooo, to sum up, is the problem a 'spike' from something in the car, or the quality of the processor???? Sorry that I can't be more definate....

Both our PT's are manual and are now both fitted with genuine Mopar cruise controls.
Our 02 was in it when we bought it and our 04 was fitted with one in the past few days at Mopars by Sam.
Sam sourced one of the last genuine Mopar ones in the States from a Chrysler dealer and already I noticed a big difference coming home regarding fuel.
Yet to fill up today to compare but fuel gauge wise close to a 1/4 tank difference in saving just coming home from Melbourne. Hume 110 kph and off Hume about 102 kph.
Constant speed and not using accelerator manually at all does wonders to the the piggybank for petrol. My opion only, others may think differently but the money in my pocket already proves it to me.

hey I thought cruise control was std on all post 2003 or so??? I know PT1 didn't have as she was a eng evaluation vehicle lots of things different opps topic ... can't speak for manuel ( petrol stirrers) ... BUT cruise control on bigger hills uses more fuel in 2005 Ps&Rs why I take it off .... also note that the fuel gauges are eratic don't talk about 2005 gave up on that fuel economy and ryme or reason ages ago !! ... BUT 2010 seems to be more constant we get 150kms for quarter a tank .. then 260kms for 2/4 & 3/4 (next half) then 50-70 kms for last quarter .... about 450-500 per tank depending on how much city driving or traffic jams I do in between sometimes NONE .. other times 200kms less per tank !!
