TOPIC: Wedding Ribbons

Wedding Ribbons 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Hey to all out there who do and have done weddings with ribbons on the PT

I have been asked to do a friend's aunt's wedding this Saturday, and they have given me two ribbon colours - White and the same as the Bride's dress (the ribbon calls it orange, but its a little more earthy and peachy than orange...

Just wondering if anyone has had any requests for two colours of ribbon - and if so, how did you do it?
Alternatively, any suggestions as to how to go about putting two ribbon colours on??

I was thinking of a few ways it could be done - and I have heaps of ribbon to play with...
Was also thinking of trying to make up a bow or something to put on the front grille?

- run the two colours on top of each other and twist them?

- run the two colours so that they come up side by side - or a high and low V?

- just run one colour and use the second for a bow?

- what about small bows on the door handles?

I have a little under 100 yards of ribbon (some was taken off the roll for something else but not much) was thinking of trying a few things over the next couple of days...

Any thoughts / ideas / suggestions ?? greatly appreciated.

Would it be better with or without the bonnet protector? I've kinda seen that with it on the ribbon bounces more onto the bonnet - like it touches then raises off it again - than if it was coming straight over the front from the grille with a smoother lift up to the windscreen...
I know it's not real easy to tell on this pic, but the wedding I did a few years ago - you can kinda see how it comes off the bonnet protector, then touches down on the bonnet then lifts off again - I think I got a couple of marks from that one, and thinking it would be best without the protector?

It's this Saturday if anyone is willing to give me a hand?
(I have to pick up the bride about 3:30 at Westmead.)

Thanks
Dean

I've not been asked to do double ribbons before .. dot typing out before thinking ... I am liking the idea of the double V but If u tie one colour to the top of of A pillar (like in pic)I used the internal sunvisor bracket ... an then the other to the mirrors both down to bonnet catch ... make them tight or they will flap .. the bonnet protector should help to keep it OFF the paint work ??? ...... suggest buy some CHEAP paper ribbon or even string to experiment with ... depends on how it looks & if it blocks drivers vison too much .... maybe white V & the coloured bow idea on the mirrors but how are U at doing bows ?? .. do U have a back aeerial?? .... U could put both on that !!?? .. if they had thinner ribbon for the back would be good ... if it Papaer floristry ribbon U can make that thinner ??

hey the twist idea ... I'd be worried that they don't stay nice together when U R cruisin ... If U glued the ribbon togethter first then twisted ... depends on what trend the ribbons are on the flowers & the the theme of wedding .. contemporary or modern I don't think the twists go .... pretty & lacy might be ok .. hmm ..leave it with U dotty signing off from too far away to really be any help sorry .. love to see what U come up with ...
hopefully fire fly & black pearl & Black onyx will read this and have some betterer ideas ... I had a quick look in the PT wedding album .. none with double ribbon ... yet !

Last couple we did this way we prefered the bonnett protector on. It does help if you don't have a bracket set up and it didn't rub the paint.
The twisted together idea sounds alright, saves running the 2 ribbons seperately.

Pics from the weekend Dean to show us how you eventually did it.

Dean, keep it as simple as you can . We run the 25cm ribbon from the centre of the top grille to the hand grips on the roof .tie them as tight as you can. Cover the knot with a small white bow ......With the 2nd colour,as a suggestion only tie a ribbon ,and it only needs to be small on each back door handle . with only using one pt its importantant not to distract too much from the white with the bride. You can repeat the small orange ribbon on the rear roof handle grips .Dont make them too big its only a suttle contrast to get the theme happenning . Have a look at the front of our two blacks on the picture for our post and you can see a white floral garnish that ties on the centre bar of the grille Was a decoration for the front of the ribbon You can buy these from spotlight only a few dollars and it saves trying to tie a decent bow..The bonnet protector should lift the ribbon away more and the rub should be less than ours.thats why its best on the grips rather than the visor for the height. Also found that by using the narrower ribbon its not as restrictive with your vision............. need more advice ring us only too glad to help

Just had a little play with some ribbon...

I don't like 'doing the twist' lol - looks like that would mark more, and if it's not even it would look tacky...

I like the 'peach' colour on the black - looks good!

And here's the two colours - alternate which is on top:

I like this last one with the peachy colour on top with the white coming out from underneath it... I'm thinking going with this, with a nice bow on the front and door handles and panic handles inside...

2 colours = barracking for football club. Not too pretty! One colour ribbon and rosette/bow with both colours will look beautiful.

I agree with Wendy and the Master of Weddings - Rob. If your the main car carrying the Bride - White Ribbons only from the bonnet and both colors for the Bow at front and or door handles if required. Dont over do it....sorry mate its about the bride not the car. Surprisingly most people are so engrossed in looking at the bride you may not even have to wash your car...lol.
If you like you could even tie some little bows in the car on the door arm rests that might make her happy!
Dean if you want some Tuell for the rear parcel shelf ring me tomorrow, I'm going to Newcastle very early in the morning to drop some wheels for Pirates off and i can stop by around midday on the way back!
I also have some "Marry Me" number plates.

Dean you will end up with some marks on the bonnet about 200mm from the Chrysler Badge at approx 50mm wide. Will your driving its not to bad but when you stop the ribbons tend to flap a bit and abbrasses the bonnet. Hope fully your polished up but you will need to polish the bonnet again when it the wedings finished. You do luv your Aunt.
As Rob said if you have a bonnet stone chip shield that helps.
One for Dot....I think Steve Drury (yu know that bloke from SA) had a bracket made up that holds the ribbon up off the bonnet.....I think!

By the way I found a rose (the flower thingi) that ties to the grille.
I personaly dont like them, bit ole hat and tissy for the retro. Don't really see many use em these days. If you tie the Apricot Ribbon into a bow and put the rose over the top of it it might look ok.

Dont forget to phone me.

Well... I've been told! haha

She wants both colours on the car - she's not in a white dress, it's the colour of the other ribbon... I thought it looked good on the black...

So... just the white then? and use both for other 'trimmings' ie bow on the front and small ones on door handles and inside handles... Not sure if she'll like that or not - said she wanted both colours on the car

some what?

Yes I saw the bracket Steve in SA had made - : www.ptcruisers.com.au/forum/discussions/...-ribbon-bracket.html

but I don't have time to do anything like that... I'm sure it will be ok - another mark won't show on my bonnet the state its in

I'm not sure where my bonnet protector thingy is, so will go without it

Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with white ribbon as the main ribbon on the car - and the colour for bows etc... but this isn't your normal bride... the bride is NOT wearing white... She's wearing a coloured dress (the colour of the other ribbon)

As far as I know, it's a garden wedding and I'm the only car...

But as the proud owner of the car you dont notice the bride but yu stare at your car......lol. As Rob says...self satisfaction.
I've got a pic of a Bride who was in a soft brown. Stunning. Must find it for you.
