Reversing Camera & GPS 6 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Hi I have a 2006 Cabrio and am going to fit a reversing camera. Rear vision is not always good in the Cabrio. Have had a couple of moments, particularly in carparks.
Since I have to have a screen for the camera thought I might as well have GPS on the same screen. Have bought a system.
Anyway, problem is to find a wire to the back-up light to which to connect the camera.
My car has the lights in the bumper bar that are not held in by screws. The manual says push in a piece of plastic and undo clips. What clips? I can't get the backup light out.
Can anyone tell me what I should do or is there somewhere else I can access the wire to the reversing light.

Thanks Ken

You are on the right track. the clips are on each end they are spring clips that just snap in. You need to get somthing solid (I used a screwdriver with a piece of rag under it) and gently prise them out from each end, it worked for me when I replaced mine with american reversing lights..

Thanks for the reply. My car does not have any metal clips. However on the number plate end there appears to be a Clip? about 10mm wide made out of the red lens material and part of the lens that seems to clip into the bumper down in the hole where the lens fits. I am very wary about pushing it too hard in case it breaks.
My car is 06/2006 build. The manual I got with the car did not cover the cabrio and only showed the screwed in lights. I got a manual on E-bay from US covering the cabrio and it was a 2008 book mentioning the metal clips Suggests there was another type, mine, in between.
Question, is it safe to push the plastic clip in, towards the lens, very very hard push required, worrysome.

My car is also a 06 model not a cabriot, I think you wii find the metal spring clip under that plastic lens material it is about 10 mm wide. You should not have to push to hard just insert the screwdriver between the bumper and the vertical edge of the light and gently pry it out...

I Finally got it. I was looking in the wrong end of the light. The inboard end, closest to the number plate. Finally got it out and found the clip at the other end.
Thanks for the help. Now have to find a way to get a wire from the number plate into the boot. Once into boot no problem, wire runs (I will hide it under things) up to the screen on top of dash.

Finally the GPS & reversing system is installed and working. Found a hole to get the cable thru under the "Liftgate Scuff Plate".
GPS is mounted on windscreen far RH side. Have ordered a centre dash mount made specifically for the PT Cruiser. No holes have to be drilled.

Re the clips on the lights. My manual says slide the piece of plastic along the INBOARD side of light to undo clip. Inboard to me suggests towards the centre of car
Anyway one lives & learns.

Thanks for advice.

Glad to have been some help. I would be interested to see a photo of the GPS set up in the PT mount when you get it......
