replacing rear backup lamps( in the bumper) 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Can anyone tell me if i can replace my rear backup lamps with one imported from the State?
I have a 2006 Inferno Red Cabrio ( love it ! ) and an American dealer can supply but can't guarantee it cos my car is an 'import' . Do cruisers have the same electrical systems worldwide ?

its only a few minute job to unscrew the oiginal and put the replacement back up lights in. you might like to disconnect the right hand fog light at the rear and run a wire across between them so you have both lights showing in reverse

No offence:-)

I'd *not* be removing the driver-side rear fog lamp in order to achieve twin reverse lamps; the car was ADR complianced with the rear fog function, even though, to date, that function remains ADR optional, it *can* still lead to a technical defect under Trade Compliance, although probability is low (not enough smart coppers or agency compliance staffers around).

Atm the Vehicle Certification Board are studying the possibility mandating the rear fog lght function,- for on-road safety. See link.

A cars regular 5watt taillights, what you are left with after this mod, are utterly worthless in even 3mls of roadwater on a freeway in daylight rain, here, and in similar conditions causing reduced visibility (fog, dust, bushfire smoke etc)- having the rear fog light,- IS a car and life saver.

Besides, do we spend that much time going backwards that we need an extra reverse leight? Adding an extra reverse light does not in actuality double the lumination in photometric terms.

I'd be keeping the rear fog function, but you might like to add a separate dedicated, relayed and rear-mounted working lamp instead (12v/55watt)!

hmm .. this one has my attention too ... rear fogs used in WRONG conditions drives me crazy ... they are so bright and confusing .. BUT in correct conditions a LIFE saver I imagine ... if ADRs are checked & tested this could be an ISSUE cars are NOT supposed to be TAMPERED / fiddled with ... lots of $ are spent to have the vehicles made compliant & "stamped" off .... food for thought for sure!!
