Ray, my Caltex at Penrith has withdrawn E10 and has done so for some time, unleaded they have yellow unleaded 91 plus 95 and 98, your post seem outdated as my caltex usec to have E10 and the propietor told me that they do not use it anymore, ps. 4 the couple of cents difference use the better fuel regards Murf

Deb has been running E10 in her 04 car since it came out.Her car performs better & fuel economy has increaced as well.We only run E10 in it as that's what seems to work the best for her car.
My 02 model with screamon demon stuff & air pod runs the best on standard unleaded, tried all the higher ones with no sucess. So I stick to the standard unleaded which works best for me.

Well there you go! But then my 03 (2L) and 05 (2.4L) both go better on 98. I have previously reported in the forum how minor ignition problems were not apparent with 98 yet were almost disastrous on 91.

I don't believe screamon demon stuff or air pods are going to make any difference with regard to fuel octane rating. In other words if they do anything I would expect they would do the same for either fuel.

One interesting point is how long did you try higher octane fuel? It is my understanding (but I am not sure), that the Engine Management and transmission management systems have a learning capability. It could then take some time to adjust between different fuels. Might be one explanation as to why my ignition lead problems were more evident on 91 and not 98.

Ok after a fair bit of moderating we move on but lets try and help the very first post that was entered.
I think the question has been answered. C-Dog asked what people were using and to check that using 91 wasn't causing any damage to his engine. The responses show varying experience with the answer perhaps being summed up as "whatever works best for you".

With the engine being designed to use low octane then that should not cause any engine damage. If you do not experience any pinging of the engine there shouldn't be any problem with your engine. To avoid engine damage I think fuel quality is far more important than octane rating so buy from a reputable supplier of quality fuel products. Consider a saving of 1c/litre over the life of say 200000km at 10L/100km will only save $200 (over 8 years at 25000km per year). So paying 1-5c/L extra for fuel from a quality supplier has to be a worthwhile insurance for your beloved PT.

Can't find the topic as far as prices go for petrol so will pop it in here but I'm sure we are getting the backside ripped out of us here in Wagga as far as petrol prices go.
The Petrol watchdog mob aren't interested and the ACCC or whatever they are called don't seem to care but to give you an example of what we have to put up with here, last thursday I filled our 04 up at Caltex with Vortex 95 in Wagga and paid $1.41.9 per ltr.
Yesterday in Albury i filled our 02 up at Caltex with Vortex 95 and paid $1.22.9 per ltr.

Tell me we aren't getting the raw end of the stick or I'll go and buy me self a FORD and that would be really going down low.

I would like to know why at times petrol is cheaper in Albury for example than Melbourne and the fuel comes from there.

No wonder I haven't got any hair left worrying how to keep 2 PT's full of petrol around here.

I have just cruised 3 hours from seachange .. fuel was cheaper there than here in MELB didn't matter the Brand .. 12 & 7cents in 20mins cruisin at one point ... Go figure .. BUT I have figured out when to buy for my weekend runs .. it can save between $3.00 & $5.00 per tank .. & if I have dockets even more !! ... do that for a year it add up !! it is STILL cheaper to catch the train for one person but when carrying freight it works out betterer ! ALSO noted that the shell coles has 94 octane with 10% ethanol out in the country BUT here in the BURBS it is still 95 with apparently NO ethanol ??? ... ALL VERY CONFUSING !

I've used Caltex 91 for the past 4 years , I have not yet had to clean the injectors..
ocassionally I throw a full tank of 98 ... so far so good. for the extra couple of cents ,it has been worthwhile.

petrol prices...???
