Fuel consumption will vary depending on how you drive the car, we average around the 9litre/100kms in our 2.4litre manual running premium unleaded, went away on the weekend & battled Very Strong head winds for over 270kms & sitting on the speed limit (110km)we averaged 10litres/100km.

Like you Keith mine depends on whether just driving around town or out on a trip. Can vary quite a bit.

figures quoted so far are pretty close to average from as low as 8 upto 13-14.
Depends on the driver and conditions
Could be far worse, Voyager I drive every day around Parramatta 24.5 ltr/100 70 ltrs every 2 days

Everything I've read on the topic says that unless your car calls for premium (high octane), there is no benefit to using it.
Premium is actually harder to ignite, and is often required in high-compression or turbo engines to prevent pre-ignition or detonation.

Mine is a 2l Auto. I generally get 9-10/100 which includes a trip up the Toowoomba Range every day of the week. (5 days a week to work, weekends checking on elderley Mum and doing stuff with the other PTers in Twmba).
I use Shell VPower or BP Ultimate, mainly because thats what I've used in all of my previous cars. Did notice about 15% better fuel economy once we put the K&N Air Filter on.

From my experience can't say that I agree with this fully. Sometimes pre-ignition can be controlled for lower octane fuels by reducing ignition advance which reduces efficency and performance as well. Running Higher Octane fuel allows for greater advance. The modern engine management systems easily adjust iginition timing to suit the conditions. For a Camry I once had higher octane fuel made no difference. For my 1992 Daihatsu Applause surprisingly it gets better economy on higher octane (didn't think a 1992 model would have such sophistication in its engine management system).
For my PT I do not think there is much difference in economy (but hardly use lower octane anyway) but I have found faulty plugs and leads are hardly noticeable with premium grade (only intermiitent miss at idle) yet runs like a hairy goat with the same leads and plugs on lower octane rating fuel.

My fuel economy dropped by about 100km per tank full when I added a pod filter but came back to where it was when I had the twin exhaust fitted. Can't wait to get the cold air intake set up.

This subject is becoming too confusing for me.
I'm not going to worry about putting any petrol in from now on &
see how mine runs.

Mine still a very consistant 10l/100km on from 2.4l manual.
Best I have got was a trip to Albury at 8.5l/100km and that was with the aircon running for about half the trip.
As for petrol I use 95RON premium unleaded all the time.
I don't use it for any performance gains but because the additives they used are better than in regular unleaded and I do get better fuel economy and the car does seem to run better. There is no point going to 98RON.
Have tried E10 to save a few cents but found fuel economy was far worse and car drove like a pig. Overall it cost more as I only got 400km from a tank instead of the normal 500-550km using premium unleaded

hand book 2.4ltr = 95 octane the car definitely runs better around town on trips if you can find it. e10 S*&t, 98 or better to expensive for little benefit. Now if your Turbo-ed/supercharged that different.

This topic has many different ideas & suggestions.Everyone has different points of veiw. Both our cars are auto 2L's & get between 8 & 9L/100ks on a trip.I run standard unleaded & Deb runs E10.Tried the high octain fuels & the results were worse than what we normally get.Best thing try all & find what works best for you.

The manual (2L) does say minimum 95
I generally use 95 or 98 depending on where I am. I get about 9-11 on the consumption for average daily use, depending on the conditions and trips done... Of course the long trips get better... and my daily use is very short runs which isn't really that good for it, but can't be helped, hence the crap consumption at times
