Extended Warranty - yes or no 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Thats it really- is it worth getting the 2 year extended warranty through Chyrsler?

We bought the 09 Special Edition in Dec from Adrien Brien and are loving it.
We intend to keep this car long term and I'm not sure what the issues might crop up or what to watch for.

Given the special nature of this car I'm guessing its a good idea to get this even though its $1835 which seems a little steep.

What are people's warranty experiences?

It does not hurt to get it but that depends on your choice and how your finances are
I'm not entirely sure if the same applies to new as it does used
But there are two types of warranty I'm not sure if you are aware
Theres Harrier and Premium Harrier I was not told this when I purchased mine(and I work there)
Standard harrier is only good for $1500 in warranty repairs over 3 years(which I got with mine)
Premium is unlimited $$$ over 3 years which does cost more than standard
Just double check to make sure

I got extended when I bought mine as it was an 04 which I bought in 07 and got 3 years extended standard harrier warranty, Like I said I had no knowledge there was 2different ones. In the 3 years I have owned it. I have had Faulty airbag light(warranty) Control arm bush's(warranty) and Clutch (warranty)
Which has used up all my credits and I still have until April this year on paper only left of my warranty

Is it conditional on service agreement? If so, avoid it. The amount of money you save on the servicing could easily cover most repairs.

Just read the fine print. I had my minor glitches (first year, first RHD build) repaired under warranty and only most times chose to go with a better quality repair option than go through Chrysler genuine parts.

What would err me in regards to having a "Chrysler" warranty instead of being able to shop around myself is the quality of parts and lack of after market fix up bits. One example that a few people have come across - me twice - is rubber bushings on the gear selector cable both gearbox and gearstick end. If either go, Chrysler will quote you immediately $600 plus labour to replace the entire cable when a fix is a bunch of $15US bushings which will outlive the car. Another is control arm bushings. Chrysler replaced mine twice and both times they split. At 70,000k I replaced them with nolathane bushings and just got rid of the car at 185,000k with no further issues other than having to clean them out and lube them every now and then. I'd probably have had to replace them several times again if I went with factory parts.

I recently replaced timing belt, water pump, gaskets, all drive belts, cam shaft leak, gear box leak, major service etc. Sourced the major parts from the US with the total bill coming in under $2k. In saying that, I'm the original owner and know how it was driven/treated.

Each to their own but I would not go with it.

agree with Wendy, our 03 had minor issues with the timming belt rubbing fixed in warranty and and broken pt badge, all fixed in first year, We are lucky to have a mechanic in coffs who does all our repairs and does them better than chrysler. would never consider extra protection because all your doing is wasting your money with chrysler.

Thanks heaps for this!

GIven the advice, I think I'll hold off and instead find a good mechanic. Any good ones in Northern Adelaide?

Never bothered taking any extended warranty and touchwood we got through with any major problems. Had to replace the front bushes outside of warranty and the Idle motor but apart from that have had a trouble free run.
Replaced the radiator 12 months ago after it cacked itself along the bottom of the core but I do have a 3 year warranty on that through Natrad. Only condition there is they have to service the radiator each 12 months until it runs out. This is with our 02 of course.
