Air Con Idle Judder - Again 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Ok I know I have written a previous post but wanted to ask again for any fresh ideas. My problem is idle judder when the aircon solenoid switches on and off. Never seems like it is going to stall just judders for the split second when the solenoid clicks in and out and only at idle. As suggestions, I have checked the fan and yes it comes on and goes off when aircon is switched on and off so that’s ok. Leads and plugs have been changed, revs are about 750 ish at idle and go down a little to about 700 ish when solenoid clicks in. Any more suggestions as don’t want to buy a new idler motor or controller if not required and does anyone know the price of these.

Bob if it was the Idle motor control it wouldn't run at all. Had this go on my 02 a while back and believe me there is no idle at all, just cuts out unless you are a V8 driver and know exactly how to drive heel & toe to keep it going.

Thanks Graham now I dont know what it is, if air con is off all works fine and it definitely is only when the air con solenoid comes in and out !! I was looking at upping the idle speed via the throttle home stop screw but cant find what type of screw it is to adjust half a turn. I know the computer controls speed but the throttle stop screw should allow for minor adjustment if only I knew what type of srew it was as dont want to bugger up it's head.

Bob this is what the Idle motor looks like and isn't cheap. I think I ended up getting it for around the $300 mark unfortuneately through a dealer but had to have it. It's tucked down the behind the idle screw speed adjustment if my memory serves me correctly and has a plug on the end of it that goes back to the computer. my idle speed is around the same as yours so sounds a bit like a combination or maybe something to do with your air con solenoid........................interesting to find out what it actually is when you do find out.

What's V8 got to do with heel and toe driving? Just as applicable to other engine configurations.

All mended - in brief to help anyone else who may get this fault.

Engine stumble at idle when aircon on caused by radiator fan not coming on intermittently generating high pressure in air con system and shutting down a/c compressor, which made engine stubble.

Replacement radiator fan from Sam @ Mopar $550 including postage to Qld, fitting $88 Re gas $88. Re gas not necessarily required by I had it done, as it was 4 and a bit years old.

Incidentally I also had a faulty low pressure switch that was replaced for approx $90.
