Mazda 6 will form basis for new Lincoln small car.
First new Astin Martins were based on 20 year old Jaguar XJS platform.
Jaguar S and Lincoln midsized car based on same platform.

Porsche 924 series cars were designed by Porsche for Audi but Audi decided not to release the car so Porsche did under their own name.
VW went into a bidding war with BMW over the purchase of Rolls Royce and Bentley. Only after they won and paid a huge amount of money did they discover that They only bought the
Rolls Royce Motors and that the Rolls Royce Brand was not owned by Rolls Royce Motors but was still owned by Rolls Royce (a different company entirely). The Rolls Royce name and mascot was then sold to BMW, leaving VW with nothing but a dilapidated factory and the Bentley Brand.
VW Golf, Audi A3, Audi Quattro and Skoda Felicia are essentially the same car. Same for Passat and Audi A4.
DaimlerChrysler
Mercedes Benz, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Maybach, De Soto (deceased 1961), Plymouth (deceased 2000 something), Imperial (deceased twice but may make another comeback)
Joint developer of Smart Car. Had controlling interest in Mitsubishi.
