Here's a little overview of some new stuff you're seeing in the forum...

There's various ranks set up, and allocated based on how many posts you've made. Then there's 3 special ones that aren't dependent on number of posts.

Karma

This gives you a way of voting on everyone's "usefulness".

Annoyed by someone's pointless post? Give them the thumbs down.

Like to applaud someone's super useful post? Then click the green thumbs up instead.

Everyone's karma count is an accumulation of this peer based feedback.

Not sure about the karma bit. It appears you could sit there just ticking thumbs up on the one post all the time!
There certainly would be quite a few here that live off other forums so are probably quite use to whats out there.
Then theres me and and probably quite a few as well like me happy to stay on one or dont have the time or need to look at other forums so this will be a bit of a culture shock for some and hopefully only a short while....2 nights;)

Why dont you start an introduction post with all those explanations of all the thingies and what they do and you can build on it as the questions are answered.
Lock it so it remains one page.
How to add an avatar etc, what topic icons are used for etc

I have seen the karma thingy work in some communities.

It's really good when there's mutual respect all round, and a negative feedback is just a way of saying someone's post wasn't useful for the topic.

But if that's not going to happen here, then it's gone!

All sounds interesting Shane. Will watch to see what happens.

Yeah but it doesn't show the karma for 'that' post or topic - its on the person...

Hi all.
I dont understand with this karma thing. If someone has Karma 2, does that mean they are good twice or bad twice?

Is there anyway to be notified of PM's other than going into the home page. even a small popup window like the old way.
Its easy to get wound up in the forum and not check for PM's in the home page

I've just turned on "popup" notifications for everyone.

You should now get a popup window in the top left of the page whenever you have a new PM.

If anyone wants to turn it off again, go to Home -> Private Messages -> Settings
