FANTASTIC REPORT BY "HOW" (HelonWheels)
And this is how it all began. Les and I were driving near Sanctuary Cove in 2000 ,when this black retro car scurried off into the bitumen distance. OMG. “What was that?” squealled my delighted outburst. (Those that know me can picture my noise). Off after it until we could read a beautiful chrome “Chrysler”. Well, like all of us it was love at first sight.
Now when you buy a new car, that’s exactly what you get, a new car, until the kids spill their first maccas meal on the carpet, and then it’s just a car. When you but a PT second hand or new not only do you get a car with endless variations and add-ons (Bling), you get what some people say is a lifestyle, a hobby, and a family of friends willing to chat about almost anything. You also get an eye-catching, head-turning drive or a weekend away crusin’.
Welcome to the Mount Tamborine Brewery and Cheese Factory cruise.
On a rainy Saturday 13 PT’s and 1 Pre-PT Neon met at BP Yatala at 8:30 where breakfast was consumed and greetings made. It was “a not so dodgey” cruise without the Avenger in tow. HOW gave out a Spotto game bag for everyone to start a day of fun cruising. There was some more fun with feathers and safety pins. Car poker trialled at Gayndah was begun with the first card. HOW had some fun with Scottie and a flip out map for tail end Charlie.
The weather was not looking too favourable, as the PT’s meandered along to the cuppa tea spot in the park. CB’s were alive with Spotto calls along the country road. It was very pleasant with no traffic lights and very little traffic. With the cars parked the raffles began and friends had a relaxing 30 minutes. Laughter was had as Krispy Kreme’s and chips were shared. Spotto points were gathered in the park.
Adventurer (busted toe and torn/bruised muscles) Don (with Bundy’s help) climbed the huge Moreton Bay fig tree to secure a top vantage point to photograph our PT’s in the park.
Someone mistook C-Breeze for a pink and blue wheelie bin and left an empty coffee stick and sugar wrapper in its boot container. “You need to buy a raffle ticket” called out Merrilyn. (You know who you are!).
As we wound our way up the mountain like Harlequin beetles-dark clouds and fog surrounded us. The Irwin family were waiting to join us. With brolleys up, some of us braved the wind, rain and fog to find the fudge shop and other trendy Mount Tamborine shops. Spotto bags were handed in for judging. A difficult decision to find a winner as everyone had gathered a good bag of stuff.
The $10 brewery tray tastings began along with sampling cheeses and ice cream. The beers were very different and people had interesting comments about them. Tables set up inside the brewery caused some ruffled feathers between staff and Cruisers. Saturday was looking very crowded at Witch’s Chase. Lunch was ordered from the beer garden bistro, and the poker hand was completed.
At the end of lunch certificates of appreciation were given out to Loxy and Flamin’ L. The Managers pick went to Loxy. Mobster cleaned up the poker game with a Full House, Flamin’ L declined his winning/losing hand in favour of Flamin’ Harriet with an Ace /King/8 nothing - just beating BundyMum's Ace/King /Jack/10 nothing. Gypsy Rose took out the Spotto prize, well done everyone. The prizes were donated by the talented Flamin’ L. These were etched glasses monogrammed with the PT cars and MT Logo were fantastic.
The raffles were won by Flamin’ L, Blue Moon, Gremlynns.
Goodbyes where said hastily with the rain beating down on a tin roof. The retro cars began winding their way home, to be washed and polished waiting for another day on Queensland roads with friends.
Thank you to all PT families who participated in the cruise today. My thanks goes to Scottie for his tireless efforts in keeping up attendance lists and all things admin.Thank you to Flamin’ L for the donation of the spectacular prizes, I’m sure they will be treasured. Thanks to Shelby for the donation of chips for our morning tea stop. Thankyou to C-Breeze for the terrific effort with the great prizes for our fundraising. Your good buys are much appreciated. For those who were suffering from winter ills, or committed elsewhere today, we look forward to seeing you on another cruise. I personally had a great day. I enjoyed giving you (homework) and loved the CB banter along the way. Thanks for being good sports with my games.
Love to all, HOW, Helonwheels.
AND a special thanks go to Helen (and supported by Les) for your top efforts to keep everyone happy and occupied with your games and the time it must have taken you to produce the certificates and arrange this fabulous day!(and the great report)
