Spare wheel ??? 3 Years, 4 Months ago
Hi all,

We had a great day yesterday travelling down to Anglesea and Apollo bay with the GROC participants, bit of a shame about the weather, but hey, we do need the rain in Victoria, anyway, as I said had a great day travelling down!!!! the boys and I left at 4.30pm to drive home and were doing ok until just between Lorne and Anglesea I could hear a bit of a strange noise, and sure enough I had a flat tyre, and of course, It took a bit of time to find a spot I could actually stop, but we managed to pull over in a safe spot for an attempt at changing the tyre, I don't think the boys had much faith in thier Nanna, as they were trying to flag down everyone who drove by,( not that anyone stopped) but I managed to do the job and was just tightening up the nuts when the RACV man stopped to help, he said I'd done a great job and that we should be fine getting back to Melbourne on the spare wheel.(he did mention wheelbarrow wheel) But it wasn't till I had a look this morning, that I nearly fainted when I looked at the spare on the car, are these wheels legal and or how safe are they? also does the spot for the spare fit a normal wheel in it? I'm hoping not to have another flat for a while, because instead of buying a replacement wheel and tyre, I shouted myself a new set of wheels and tyres, any excuse!!!

Cheers
Teekay

Re: GORC 'on the road' and Reports 3 Years, 4 Months ago
Friday

Chris, Erica, Fire&Ice, Phil and myself met up at Queenscliff and greeted the PTs as they came off the ferry. We cruised to Barwon Heads, where we were met by a member of the local press for a group photo.

We were asked, as "locals" to lead the cruise from Barwon Heads to Torquay, where we collected two more cruisers, Teekay & boys and Brian & Heather.

Brian then led us all to Anglesea, where we were greeted by the Town Crier and local councillor. We stopped for lunch then headed off to Apollo Bay at our leisure.

We arrived at the Seaview Motel and Apartments and all settled in to our rooms. Peter, our host, has made us feel most welcome.
We had a fish & chip meal and socialised, getting to know quite a few of our interstate friends a lot better.

Saturday
We all headed off to do our own things. Phil and I drove West to see the Twelve Apsotles. Everywhere we stopped along the way we saw other PTS. We did not always see the owners or talk to others, but still felt as if we were travelling together.
We hooked up with Inferno for lunch at Port Campbell and went on to see London Bridge, The Bay of Martyrs and Bay of Islands
On our way back, as we were driving through Port Campbell, we saw people waving at us so we stopped and had a chat and cuppa with a group of "OUR People".

We then headed back towards Apollo Bay. On our way we saw a PT, which of course we followed. They pulled over and we had a bit if a chat. It was MYPRC from Colac. They had just been over to meet with people at Apollo Bay.

We returned to or accommodation where we had a communal bbq and several drinks. Quite a few of us girls took a walk down to the beach to see the glow worms. This was an experience not be missed. Those of us who were there will no doubt agree "you had to be there".

The South Australian contingent arrived and swelled the cruiser numbers to more than I can count on fingers and toes, with 16? from NSW, 3 Vics, 1 TAS and 2 or more from SA.

So far this Cruise has been a lot of fun and it is great being able to put faces to cars and forum names. I cannot wait to see what tomorrow will bring.

I don't reckon they should be - those little things are crazy!! I had to use it about a month ago...
No, the "real" wheel and tyre won't fit under there - some are trying to modify it but I don't know if they've had much luck...
Since the time I had to use the 'bike wheel' as I call it, I've kept a spare 'real' wheel in the boot - lucky I have 2 sets... and for this trip for the luggage space, it's tucked behind the drivers seat - fits ok there in a doubled plastic bag and blanket over it...

We had a member's tyre blow out a few days ago on way into Eden, he 'limped' the last few kms on the 'spare' and then got a lift to the next town for new tyres...

Anyway... back to the cruise...

Re: GORC 'on the road' and Reports 3 Years, 4 Months ago
Sorry I'm a little behind with updates - but been having too much fun!!
where am I up to...

Wednesday

Leaving Lakes Entrance for Sorrento / Dromana / Mornington Peninsula...
Meeting after check out in the Lakes Entrance carpark, with much conversation and offerings of the usual biscuits etc, I headed out a bit before the group as I had to head into Melbourne to pick up my passenger from the airport... (couldn't get the full time off work) ...so finding the roadworks ok from Dot's reports - many thanks Dot! - it wasn't too bad as they'd watered it down, so there didn't seem to be any dust flying off it... TXT messages back n forth with the President to let the main group know what the situation was continued on... I turned at Sale on the A1 to Melbourne while the rest headed south...

Got into melbourne and to the airport ok - and after MANY beeps on the e-tag - man you guys take too many tolls on the one road!!! - pulled up to the terminal as Ben walked out the doors - talk about timing!! Back on the road after fuel and pitstop for lunch and MANY MORE tolls was heading south down the mornington peninsula for Dromana... After a minor detour thanks to the satellite navigation not having the street address for Dromana, and taking - majority of us I believe that used sat nav - us way short - oh well, a re-set of the navigator to "town centre" got us back on track...

Arrived into Dromana - spotted the cabin park coming off the Freeway...

Thursday - Free day

Headed in many different directions today... we cruised around the peninsula, heading towards the point stopping here n there to take in the sights, including "Arthur's Seat"

It did fine up later in the day - others have better photos of this view grrrr

Also photograph a few of the colourful beach cabins - they were great!!

I want one!

Stopped at Sorrento as the ferry arrived in - stuck around to watch it unload and load in preparations for tomorrow... Then headed off for more exploring... Fairly relaxing day...

Returned to Dromana to get the car cleaned and ready for the meet time to head to Mopar for dinner/meet - had a pretty good run into town - against the traffic and possibly before most of it with a little luck!

Arrived at Mopar to a great welcome and parked the cars for all to see/enjoy.... Was great to check out the workshop and the cars that were on display in the workshop... Most had a good look around the shop and some purchased a few new items for their PT's - love the new tail lights Chubby!!
like these:

The new Modesty covers - this one airbrushed:

More PT's arrived throughout the afternoon/evening and it was great to see the cars and meet the people that owned them... sorry didn't get a chance to say hi to everyone...

Great dinner and evening put together by Georgina and Sam and the Mopar Team... Thanks for a great night!!!
(Might be in touch soon for some more accessories? haha )

Friday - Dromana to Apollo Bay

The usual 9am meet and ready for the quick run to Sorrento for the ferry across the bay... They grouped us all together

so most of the cars were on the top deck

with only 3 not fitting and placed on the deck below... Had a pretty smooth ride across the bay and problem free exit from the boat... with a quick regroup in the nearby carpark, heading off with a couple of stops for the local newspaper photographer and pick up some Vic PT'ers,

through Torquay and onto Anglesea to meet the town crier for a great little meet and welcome to the area and Great Ocean Road...

A little rain to also welcome us and a quick dash across the road to a local deli/cafe for lunch - only small so some moved on...

Driving out the Great Ocean Road was a little 'damp' to say the least... But it was still quite spectacular drive... A quick stop at the Memorial arch - some taking a quick photo of their PT's under the arch - and continue along the GOR...

A quick stop also at the Lorne Information centre for many for some info and souviners ... then off again to final destination for the day and next three nights at Apollo Bay... Great little Motel where we are all together - should see the PT's all lined up in the carpark! Great!

Should we start to worry now???

Saturday and Sunday - Free days to explore the Great Ocean Road and surrounding areas

Here we spent two great days - PT's in all directions and constantly meeting up and passing each other on the road as we all explored the Great Ocean Road and the surrounding areas...

Personally, on Saturday, we headed west with first stop at the Cape Otway Lighthouse for a great wander around the buildings and up the Lighthouse for the spectacular view - bit windy up there but fantastic view!!

Telegraph station:

Views from the top of the lighthouse:

Then onwards with a few photo stops at various places including Castle Cove:

A quick stop for lunch at the:

...and on to the 12 Apostles... again a fantastic stop with great views from the lookouts of the Apostles themselves and the amazing sheer cliffs

and other varied formations...
Victorias Arch

The Razorback

Loch Ard Gorge

Oh and the Prez et al were spotted again having another iced chocolate....

They're waving at another PT driving up...

London Bridge (has fallen down)

Headed on to Peterborough - before turning around for the return trip home - few more photo stop opportunities on this wonderful coastline of this great country we live...

Sunday,

We headed back in the opposite direction to where we came in on Friday... First stop the co-op at Apollo Bay for some prawns and fresh bread rolls at the bakery, then off we went...

It sure was spectacular to see on Friday coming in with the rain, but again brilliant heading back out with the spectacular views on the way...
Stopped for more photos at the Memorial Arch and new "Diggers" sculpture

got back as far as Anglesea before turning around and heading back...
Aireys Inlet and Split Point Lighthouse

used in "Mad Max" and "Around the Twist"

Stopped at Lorne for lunch and our feed of prawn rolls - YUM!!!

Back on the road and varied stops to take in the view...
Imagine living here... Hope you don't sleepwalk

Now for the real GOR Views...

As the afternoon went on, everyone returned with stories of their journeys and travels for the two days, and the SA group who had arrived the previous evening, arrived back from their day's travels, filling the carpark up with what looked a Chrysler convention!!

oh it is!

It was great to have another group of PT'ers to meet and mingle with, and check out some more PT's and what their owners have done... A few buying some merchandise as the SA PT'ers opened their boots! Thanks guys!!

Shortly after, Keith our Cruise manager drove off and re-appeared with a "PT-load" of pizza's for our communal meal - how many pizza's can you fit in a PT???

Many pizza's later and a lot of fun was had...

Best get to bed as it's an early start in the morning - 0830 - for the long drive to Bendigo...

Dean you are doing some very impressive reporting on the GORC - went to your site and brought back memories of our lone cruise to Apollo Bay and beyond. Sounds as if you are all having a great time. Good you caught up with the mob from SA - they're a great bunch of people. Look forward to the remaining reports and no doubt a DVD. Have fun!

Re: GORC 'on the road' and Reports 3 Years, 4 Months ago
Thanks...

Today was an early start with 0830 departure from Apollo Bay, where we said good bye to a number of cruisers... Our Tassie friends left us to head back home, and the SA / Vic's that were still about headed out with us and then peeled off as they headed home etc...

Thanks for cruising with us... Thanks to everyone who has joined us along the way, it's been great cruising with you, safe travels home...

Rain on and off all day today as we cruised north to Bendigo... bit cold and windy in Bendigo...

(Update) Took the "Talking Tram" ride through town on the heritage trams - great tour and info...

Old Sydney Tram: To "Rose Bay" anyone?

This is an old Sydney double-decker tram being restored by the museum
(top deck yet to be done/fitted)
